I wasn’t planning to leave a bad review, but people should know what to expect.
I made an appointment because the weather stripping on my brand-new car came loose while I was driving. I called because rain was expected the next day and I was worried about water getting inside. The person I spoke with said they were fully booked and, when I explained my concern, simply told me there was nothing she could do.
I scheduled the next available appointment and dropped off the car. When I picked it up, the weather stripping had been installed very poorly. I pointed it out, and they took the car back to fix it. As I drove away, I noticed greasy handprints all around the interior of the sunroof. I returned, they acknowledged it, and asked me to come back another day for a detailing.
I brought the car back for the detailing, but when they told me it was ready, it still wasn’t clean.
I’m extremely disappointed. After this experience, I no longer trust this service department. Even my Uber driver mentioned he stopped coming to this location because of poor service.
They’ve now offered me a complimentary full detail at 10,000 miles, but based on my experience, I’m not confident they’ll follow through or do the job right.

Unprofessional and Deceptive – Fake Recall Appointments & Aggressive Upselling
I am incredibly frustrated with my recent experience at Fredericksburg Toyota. I scheduled an appointment well in advance specifically for an safety recall. When you book a recall appointment, the bare minimum expectation is that the dealership has verified the vehicle's VIN, confirmed the necessary parts are in stock, and allocated them to your vehicle.
Instead, I arrived only to be told that they didn't even have the parts ordered or available to complete the recall. This is a complete waste of a customer's time and a massive logistical headache.
To make matters worse, instead of apologizing for their scheduling failure and focusing on fixing the issue, the service department immediately pivoted to a high-pressure sales pitch. They tried pushing for a list of additional, costly repairs—none of which actually need to be done.
It is completely transparent what is happening here: they are using mandatory safety recalls as bait to get vehicles into the shop, only to run a generic inspection and try to scare or pressure customers into paying for unnecessary service work.
I came in for a safety issue that Toyota is legally obligated to fix, and left with the issue unresolved but a massive estimate for phantom repairs. This dealership lacks basic operational organization and demonstrates zero integrity in how they treat customers. Avoid their service department unless you want your time wasted and your wallet targeted.

When I bought my car from this dealer 3 years ago, I paid extra for the VIP service that gives me free oil changes and tire rotations but boy is it a painful experience EVERY time. As mentioned in other reviews, appointments don't mean much in terms of saving time. Today it took almost 2 hours even though I brought the car in at 7:20 for my 7:30 appointment. Chris, my Sheehy advisor, neglected to point out the extra $280 fee for tire balance and alignment when he checked me in. Shame on me for not reading the fine print but I thought I was only coming in for the covered services. It was a painful surprise and I would have gone elsewhere if I had understood what I really signed up for. I was so desperate to get out of there I retrieved my car myself from the back parking lot but there was no new reminder sticker telling me when to get my next oil change which is small thing but kind of irritating. I always feel ripped off when I go to Sheehy and wish that the service department was more open, efficient, and less expensive.

Brian Shipman is the man!! He’s incredibly communicative and keeps you informed every step of the way. He does a great job explaining the services being performed and what your vehicle may need, which really gives you confidence throughout the process. Highly recommend working with him at Sheehy Toyota of Fredericksburg.

My 3 warnings:
Wait, cost, spam.
You will wait twice the time they say. I've always scheduled an appt and informed them I would need to wait, but that clearly doesn't matter. They always tell me 1-2 hour wait and I'm always there 4 hours. Bring a book, laptop, snacks, drink. You'll be waiting in a poorly lit lobby with a TV that's too loud and other customers talking too loud on their phones. If you get up to use the restroom you will lose your seat. They schedule so many customers at one time and that lobby is always crowded. It's an extremely uncomfortable wait.
They will speak fast and add on services without you realizing. Then act smug later and joke about getting 1 star reviews. The associate checking you in for your appointment is actually a salesman, not someone looking out for you. They will talk fast, obscure words, then quickly show you the paperwork and where to sign, without explaining the breakdown. Every visit, regardless of what service I scheduled for, I end up walking out paying twice the amount for additional services I never requested but have already been performed. I was also charged $1.75 for electronic document storage fee and $31.49 for shop supplies and clean up. After having to pay far more than I could afford, these additional fees have pushed me over my tolerance level for their shady behavior.
They will contact you over and over and over and over. They will call, email, text to see how your visit went, to set up your next service, or to see if you want a new car.
I walked out of my last appt, having been there a handful of times, and said I will never return. I plan to drive twice as far to use an upstanding dealership that I used prior to moving to this area. I will no longer give such a shady service dept my money.
