Had a short rental here. Pickup and return to the airport was good. Not too far away. Car itself was quite new, no issues whatsoever during the rental. Both pickup and return of the vehicle was super smooth. I could pick the exact vehicle in the app after I got off the plane, so it was just a matter of a minute or two before I had the keys and could be on my way. No weird issues after returning the car. No extra charges as there was no damage (which is getting unusual these days, some companies always find something to charge you...). All in all a great experience and I would book through them again.

Sixt at IAD has friendly staff, nice location, clear pickup and drop off instructions, timely shuttle service, quality vehicles. Tbh, everything in America is smooth until things go otherwise. I prebooked and paid for car and showed up on time. If you show up late, the agency might not value your booking. that has happened to me in the past. a quick phone call to let them know that you will be late will help in this case. also I dropped off the car on time and my fligt is at morning 7. Since their shuttle service start at 5:30am in the morning , I got lucky. If my flight was at 5:30, I don't know how I would have gotten to the airport. Return instructions were clear in email but signage at the property could have been more prominet. I first parked near the office and then was told to park at a return counter which I did not see until I was told

You Will Have To Pay Extra for the car that you reserved. I rented a Suburban (7 passenger) and SIXT CHANGED MY RESERVATION without my prior agreement to a 5 passenger vehicle. When I got to the counter to get the Suburban, they LIED TO ME, saying that they did not have any Escalades (upgrade to Suburban). The ones I could see on the lot were already reserved for someone else and they had no others on other lots. I was forced to pay an extra $500 to upgrade to 7 passenger vehicle (YES, The same as what I already rented) and when that vehicle would not meet my needs, I suggested cancelling the reservation. Suddenly, an Escalade mysteriously became available. I contacted SIXT customer service and was told that since the service agent added the $500 as a "choice upgrade" (like I had any choice - SIXT CHANGED MY RESERVATION from a 7 passenger car to a 5 passenger), then they would happily retain my $500 without further consideration. Do not rent from SIXT.

Was a 5 star review until after the car was returned. Pick-up was smooth and easy. Convenient shuttle to the pick up. Car was clean and as described. Easy return process. Received an email 2 days after return from their claims department stating that there were damages to the car. They said there was a significant scratch down to the primer. Luckily my GF had taken pictures of all sides of the car and we were able to show the scratches were already there. Submitted pictures and statement. Received a message "Pleased to inform you that we are closing the case without any further claims" Of course no human apology. Just the standard automated email. Dont know if the issue is lack of training or consistency in what constitues damages. Or a money grab. The scratches were obviously there from a prior rental and whoever checked it in previously decided they werent worth mentioning or didnt notice them all together. The person who checked our rental thought they were significant enough. Potentially could of been a few hundred dollars in charges if it werent for our proof.

Terrible experience from beginning to end. I followed the pick up directions. We were embarrassed when we walked up to the counter with our express QR “skip the line” then were scolded and told to get in line. Why have everyone check in and scan all their documents online, if you’re just going to make them stand in line when they arrive and do it all again? Left a negative response to the survey asking how our check in was and was contacted by management via email to apologize. After four days returned the car on time and full of gas. Poor directions to return the vehicle on site. No one present for return. After we had exited the vehicle and walked away, someone finally decided to show up. A shuttle arrived we went and got on the shuttle for our flight. The driver went to the restroom and we sat on the shuttle for quite some time. No one who reviewed our vehicle came to speak to us. The next day we get a notice saying there was damage to the vehicle. This was a total farce. There was no vehicle damage on the driver side and the license plate was dented and that had been there when we picked up the car. It was simply retaliation for my poor review. Also, for some reason, the rental that I booked on Expedia, which was supposed to be $300 ended up as over $500. I have rented five cars this month for travel purposes and have never experienced anything quite like this. In fact on a highway something flew off a truck in front of me and hit me when I was driving an enterprise car, and they did not charge me for any of that damage. After this experience, the next day, I rented a car from Avis it took less than five minutes, and I was on my way! I live in Europe, where Sixt is common and I will encourage everyone I know to never use it. They are rude, unhelpful and a scam.
