I wanna follow up on my fiancé‘s post. That’s a few post below.
Unfortunately, I cannot even post everything I truly have to say about Budget because there are not enough characters allowed to fully explain the level of disrespect and unprofessionalism we experienced.
But one thing I absolutely will speak on is the complete disrespect shown when an employee looked at my military ID, First, when I asked if the military discount had been applied to the rental, the employee responded with, “I don’t know, how much do you spend?” Completely unprofessional and unnecessary.
Then I handed over my driver’s license along with my military ID so they could verify it. Another older gentleman came over, looked at my military ID with a smug expression, said, “What is this… don’t need that,” and shoved/tossed my ID back across the counter. Not handed back respectfully. Not set down. Tossed.
That moment hit deeper than he probably realized.
That military ID is not “just an ID” to me.
My late husband served this country for 12 years. He was not some “average Joe” in the military. He sacrificed his life in service, and that ID represents that sacrifice. Watching someone treat it with disrespect and attitude was absolutely disgusting.
And somehow, even after that, the experience only continued to get worse.
We were given TWO filthy rental vehicles before even leaving the lot. The first had pet hair, food, trash, and dirt throughout the vehicle. The second smelled strongly of weed, had stains, footprints, and handprints everywhere, and my children were expected to ride in it.
When I respectfully addressed these issues, I was met with attitude, sarcasm, and annoyance as if I was somehow the inconvenience for expecting a clean vehicle I was paying for.
One employee even responded with:
“Well, it’s a rental. There’s bound to be trash and food between the seats.”
I’m sorry, but absolutely not.
In all my years of renting vehicles, I have NEVER experienced cars this filthy combined with employees this rude and dismissive.
To make matters worse, corporate customer service was just as inconsistent and unhelpful. We received multiple conflicting answers from different agents, promises of discounts that were never applied, and absolutely zero accountability.
For a company that advertises itself as “military friendly,” this experience was unacceptable.
I will never rent from Budget again, and I will absolutely be warning fellow military families and service members about how we were treated.
