Get Blasted
May 12, 2026
I’ve been a regular customer at the Maverick in downtown Salt Lake City for a long time, purchasing approximately $8,000 worth of diesel fuel per month. Today I was treated so poorly that I will never shop here again.
I walked into the beer cooler to check if they had a specific beer in stock. While inside, I received a legitimate business call from one of my customers and answered it briefly. I didn’t find the beer I wanted, so I left the cooler and went to get a fountain drink instead. At that point, an employee named Jared approached me aggressively and said he needed to talk to me. He accused me of being on my phone in the beer cooler because I might be trying to “third-party sell alcohol,” claiming that’s why he couldn’t make a sale to me.
I explained that I own a business and was simply taking a customer call. I told him that if this was how customers were treated, I’d take my business elsewhere. His exact response was: “Great, go somewhere else.”
When I expressed that I didn’t appreciate being accused like that, Jared got on his radio and tried to have security escort me out of the store. The security guard refused because he knows us as regular, respectful customers and saw no issue. Jared (Assistant manager) then went over and yelled at the security guard for not removing me.
This level of suspicion, rudeness, and unprofessional behavior toward a high-volume paying customer is unacceptable. I was doing nothing wrong just checking stock and taking a business call. Instead of basic courtesy, I was accused of illegal activity and nearly thrown out.
Maverick just lost thousands of dollars a month in fuel sales over this. I’ll be taking my business to a competitor that actually values its customers. Do better.
