I’m a little confused with my experience. I went here to get gas I paid $20 when I took the bill out of my pocket I noticed that it was folded over I don’t like to give money to cashiers thats folded to make them work harder so I unfolded it and gave it to him. Well when he gave me my receipt he took it back and then handed the receipt back to me. I wasn’t trying to be rude or anything I’m just confused about it.

As a father, there is nothing more painful than hearing that your child was treated without compassion during one of the moments when they needed it most. I am writing about an incident involving my 5-year-old son, who has autism, at the Maverik location on Bingham Junction Blvd in Midvale, UT on the evening of May 30, 2026. My son was at the store with a family member while experiencing a behavioral crisis. For children with autism, these situations can be overwhelming, and familiar objects can sometimes provide comfort and help them regulate their emotions. While in the store, he noticed some Mario-themed gift cards and picked them up. According to the family member who was with him, an employee named Albus approached and abruptly took the cards from my son’s hands. It was immediately explained that my son has autism and was in crisis, yet there was no patience, understanding, or compassion shown toward a child who was clearly struggling. What upsets me most is not the gift cards themselves. It is the lack of empathy shown to a vulnerable young child. My son was not trying to steal anything or cause a problem. He was having a difficult moment and needed understanding, not a response that would make his distress even worse. As a parent, I expect businesses to treat all customers with basic respect and dignity, including children with disabilities. Hearing about this incident was heartbreaking, and knowing that my son left even more upset than when he arrived is something no parent wants to experience. I hope Maverik takes this matter seriously, reviews what happened, and provides additional training to employees on how to interact with children with autism and other disabilities. Families like ours face enough challenges without having to worry about whether our children will be treated with kindness in public places. My son deserved better.

I am writing this as a grandfather who is deeply upset by what happened to my 5-year-old grandson at the Maverik on Bingham Junction Blvd in Midvale, UT. On the evening of May 30, 2026, my grandson, who has autism, was at the store with a family member while experiencing a behavioral crisis. As many families of autistic children understand, these moments can be incredibly challenging, and sometimes small, familiar things can provide comfort and help a child regain control. While in the store, my grandson saw some Mario-themed gift cards and picked them up. According to my family member who was with him, an employee named Albus approached and abruptly took the cards from his hands. My family member immediately explained that my grandson has autism and was in crisis, but the situation was not handled with the patience or compassion that a struggling child deserved. Hearing about this broke my heart. My grandson is a sweet little boy who faces challenges that many people do not see or understand. When a child with a disability is clearly struggling, a little kindness can make a tremendous difference. Instead, this interaction reportedly left him even more distressed. This review is not about gift cards. It is about empathy, understanding, and how we treat vulnerable children. I hope Maverik takes this incident seriously and provides additional training so that employees are better prepared to respond with compassion when families of children with disabilities need support. As a grandfather, it is painful to know that my grandson’s difficult moment was made even harder by an adult who had an opportunity to show kindness and chose not to.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at the Maverik location on Bingham Junction Blvd in Midvale, UT. On the evening of May 30, 2026, I entered the store with my 5-year-old family member who has autism and was experiencing a behavioral crisis. While trying to help him calm down, he picked up some Mario-themed gift cards from a display because they brought him comfort. Instead of responding with patience or understanding, an employee named Abhs abruptly took the cards from his hands. I immediately explained that he has autism and was in crisis, but there was no compassion, empathy, or effort to accommodate the situation. What upset me most was not the removal of the cards themselves, but the complete lack of kindness shown toward a young child with a disability who was clearly struggling. A few moments of patience could have made a difficult situation much easier, but instead it became even more distressing for him. Businesses serve families from all walks of life, including children with disabilities. I hope Maverik takes this incident seriously and provides additional training on autism awareness and how to interact respectfully with individuals with disabilities. I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and saddened by the way my family member was treated.
