Having my first experience using insurance for a vehicle repair with this Gerber Collision has left a very sour taste in my mouth. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this repair facility based on my experience.
At first, everything seemed great. The staff was friendly, communication was good, and I dropped my truck off and had it back within about a week. When I picked it up, I didn’t inspect the work closely because I had to get back to work.
Once I got the truck home and had some friends over, we immediately noticed the paint color was off—not just slightly, but noticeably off. I contacted Gerber, sent them pictures, and they asked me to bring it back. I understand that mistakes happen, so I wasn’t overly upset at first. However, it made me wonder how many people had looked at the truck before it was returned to me and thought the repair was acceptable.
Since they had already missed such an obvious issue, I decided to take a much closer look at the rest of the repair. That’s when I found even more problems. The tail light was cutting into the paint, there was exposed metal that had not been properly protected, and there was Bondo and overspray left in the truck bed. I also believe they may have left a dent in the corner of the cab.
I brought all of this to their attention and was actually surprised when the service manager admitted that the issues were their responsibility and said they would fix them. I repeatedly told them during both repair attempts that they could take as long as they needed. I own three vehicles, so there was no reason for them to rush the job—I would have been perfectly fine with them keeping the truck for weeks or even months if that’s what it took to do the job correctly.
About a week later, I was told the truck was ready. Unfortunately, when I arrived, I was extremely disappointed again. It appeared that they had simply covered the areas that needed paint and repainted them without addressing the underlying problems. The tail light was still causing damage to the paint. The exposed metal had been spray-painted instead of being properly protected with bedliner, even though I had specifically been told that would be done. The paint had numerous imperfections, and the bed was not aligned properly with the cab.
What really surprised me was that this was after the service manager had taken control of the situation. He personally knew about the issues, yet the truck was still allowed to leave the shop in that condition. I honestly had to wonder how anyone could look at it and consider it finished.
At that point, I immediately told him I was done and took the truck to the Gerber Collision location on 155. The difference was night and day. They told me not to worry about it, handled everything under warranty, and had the truck back to me in about a week.
The Gerber location on 155 did an excellent job, and the truck now looks nearly perfect.
My advice: stay away from this Gerber Collision location and take your vehicle to the Gerber on 155 instead. I wish I had gone there from the beginning.
