If you’re considering bringing your Mazda here for service, I would strongly encourage you to do your research first.
I brought my 2024 Mazda3 Turbo AWD in because of a check engine light for a cylinder 3 misfire. The car wasn’t running rough, wasn’t losing power, and drove normally aside from the intermittent check engine light.
Before bringing it in, I had already replaced all four spark plugs, swapped ignition coils between cylinders (following instructions from one of their own service advisors over the phone), and even installed a brand-new ignition coil on the affected cylinder. I explained all of this to the dealership before they began diagnosing the vehicle.
Despite that information, they recommended replacing the spark plug and ignition coil anyway. It felt like the work I had already performed wasn’t taken into consideration during the diagnostic process.
Another issue I had was that I requested my original parts be returned, but I was later told they had already been discarded because I didn’t request they be saved soon enough.
They also initially attempted to charge me $227 for a Mazda software update, only to later discover it was fully covered under Mazda and perform it at no cost. That left me wondering why it was added to my estimate in the first place.
One positive thing I will say is that they eventually reduced the price of one of the spark plugs after I had already signed the estimate, which I appreciated. However, it also made me question how flexible the pricing was from the beginning.
In the end, I paid nearly $2,000 for a spark plug, an ignition coil, and one fuel injector on a vehicle with fewer than 60,000 miles. I even contacted Mazda to see if my powertrain warranty would help cover the repair, but unfortunately it did not.
I understand repairs are expensive, and I’m not upset simply because I had to spend money. What disappointed me was the overall communication, the lack of consideration for the troubleshooting I’d already completed, and the overall service experience.
This was my experience, and I hope it helps others make an informed decision before bringing their vehicle here.
TLDR: they just don’t listen to you and they’ll just keep throwing stuff into it and charge you in the process. Don’t show up unless you got warranty.
Update: after inspecting my vehicle I did find my parts that they claimed they threw away… does anyone communicate in there at all with one another? My bill was also confused with another customers quote, which was several hundred dollars more. Not pleased.
Update 2: found loose screws that I could even tighten with my fingers about 24 hours after inspection of my own engine bay as I had to send my parents to pick up my car due to work. It’s like the issues just never end..
My last and final updated: the check engine light came on again and for the same code! They refused service due to my bad review. Thank you, Kim! Very professional.
