- SSSteveOct 10, 20262.0I have been a Valvoline customer for years and have paid many hundreds of dollars for oil changes and other services at this store and the one on Spencer Highway. The fiber splash plate underneath my car, which must be removed to change the oil and filter, came loose a few months after my last oil change. Nine of its eleven mounting screws were no longer securing it, and the plate was dragging beneath my car, held by the remaining two screws. Neither was tight; I removed both by hand. This was the second time a splash plate had come off following a Valvoline oil change. The first incident caused substantial underbody damage, which Valvoline paid a Ford dealership to repair. Although the current plate's screw holes were undamaged and the plate was still usable, Valvoline refused to reinstall it. The manager said that because the plate had remained attached for a period after the oil change, the problem was not Valvoline's responsibility. No one asked how far I had driven during that period. The manager also dismissed my observation that screws that are not properly tightened can take time to vibrate out. He simply repeated that, because the plate had remained attached for a while, his store would not reinstall it. I complained to Valvoline's corporate office, but the company backed its manager's decision. I gave Valvoline two stars because the oil and filter change appeared to be satisfactory, as far as I can tell, and I think it's fair to acknowledge that. But those are all the stars—and all the business—I will be giving Valvoline.
