In this relatively new store, Danny stuck with it for at least 15-30 minutes to find the plain white cardboard boxes which the NEW Loaner (Rental with Refundable Deposit) Tools that I needed - namely, Asian Cars Radiator and Cap Pressure Test Adapters Kit, and snap-on-connecting Hand Pump with Pressure Gauge - were still 'hiding' in, then rent them to me - literally SAVING our specially-featured, disabled-friendly car. Since this new location (nearer to my house) opened (1+ year ago?), every staff member has shown a GREAT Customer Service Mindset. Advance has EARNED almost 100% of this Serious Home Mechanic's parts business for all Family and Friends (maybe $40K+ since I first found Advance's leading frequent offer of Online Purchase for 30-minute In-Store Pickup AND with 15% or even 20% if over $100) Online-Only Discount - maybe 15+ years ago. Good quality parts, nearby brick-and-mortar stores with human faces I can look in the eye and ask to help ME, AND Advance's unique advantage of Net Online Prices for Same-Day Pickup with Discount Code which then start to approach the cheaper no-name un-backed 'online-only-brands'! That already combined to make Advance the 'sweet spot' of Maximum Value for Price, to this 'two-millennium' self-repairing and semi-retired engineer. Danny's Extraordinarily Excellent and Very Intentional Customer Service? THAT'S the newest 'Icing on the Cake'!

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
