DISHONEST AND DECEPTIVE DEALERSHIP, AND SALES PEOPLE.
Originally, I was pleased with my experience. I was presented with the facade of pleasantry and hospitableness, which wasn't an issue. My salesman was Cullen Gilmore, and while I was there he seemed genuine. I was informed a few days later by him personally that he left the dealership, and after what I will detail here soon, I can understand why. That in no way excuses him or the dealership's actions. For reference, the car they sold me is a 2018 Honda Pilot EXL.
During the test drive, Cullen and I both noticed that the car was making a noise that seemed unusual, but didn't seem to affect the performance of the car, so I didn't think much of it. After settling on the car, I took it to independent and trusted mechanics. They performed an extensive inspection, and looked for any issues with the car. They proceeded to inform me that the car shouldn’t have even been up for sale, and that Shottenkirk shouldn’t have let it leave the lot in the condition it was/is in. The fuel pump is going out, the tie rod and control arm were damaged and needed to be replaced, and the torque converter was giving the car RPM fluctuation issues. The front tires were also old, while the back tires were relatively new. Now with the car being an AWD, two different sets of tires with differentiating treads can actually wear out the AWD system. All in all, the costs to repair it totalled around $2500. That’s not including the possibility of a transmission replacement. One of the mechanics I spoke to while getting an alignment done said that I have maybe 8 months on this transmission. I don’t have $9-10K just sitting around in case of a transmission failure. This car was and is unsafe, unreliable, yet Shottenkirk willingly sold it to me.
I have now had two different independent mechanic shops (with no knowledge of the others reports) tell me that the car never should have left the Shottenkirk lot. I was also told by Cullen that my car would be serviced by Hyundai within a week of buying it. That call, service, and loaner car that he promised never came. I tried to follow up on a “we owe” that Cullen told me to call about, but to no avail. I also went in person to Hyundai and showed them the list of repairs that needed to be done. I was told that Paul would call me the next morning. That call never came, and I didn’t hear from the dealership for almost a week. I then received a call asking how my experience with them was. I informed them that I was told that Paul was supposed to call me but never did. That caller then informed me that Paul would reach out to me soon, but after a week, nobody called.
I am writing this to call out this dishonest organization and unprofessional behavior. I hope they will make things right, but as of right now, I have no trust in this dealership. I trusted them to sell me a decent car, and they sold me a lemon. If i could give them 0 stars, I would.
