I rented vans from Enterprise for approximately three years and had an impeccable rental history, so I was extremely disappointed by how the Murfreesboro location handled my final experience with them.
I returned a rental on May 28 with no mechanical issues, no warning lights, and no problems whatsoever. Enterprise checked the vehicle back in and returned my deposit. I then rented ANOTHER vehicle from Enterprise on June 2 — just days later — and no one said a word about any problem with the previous vehicle.
Weeks later, after I had been questioning the branch about mileage charges and a previously agreed-upon mileage allowance, I was suddenly contacted and told there had supposedly been an issue with the previous vehicle. Eventually, Enterprise’s Damage Recovery Unit sent me a bill for $1,112, claiming I was responsible for alleged fuel contamination.
Think about that timeline: they accepted the vehicle, refunded my deposit, rented another vehicle to me several days later without mentioning any problem, and then weeks later attempted to hold me financially responsible for damage they alleged occurred during my rental.
I formally disputed the claim and provided Enterprise with my receipts and documentation showing the timeline. I also requested their inspection records, documentation showing when the alleged problem was discovered, and evidence establishing that the vehicle had not been driven, moved, fueled, serviced, or accessed by anyone else after I returned it.
After receiving my dispute and documentation, Enterprise dismissed the entire claim. I received a brief email stating the claim was being dismissed and there was nothing further I needed to do. There was no apology or explanation.
I am relieved that I kept my records and was able to defend myself, but customers should not have to fight a $1,112 damage claim like this in the first place.
After three years as a loyal customer, this experience completely destroyed my trust in this location. My advice to anyone renting here: keep every receipt, document your vehicle at pickup and return, photograph the dashboard and fuel level, and save proof that your rental was closed and your deposit was returned.
I personally will not rent from this location again.
