Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Got a faulty device had to get towed back to the place that installed it. They wouldn’t pay for the tow. Had to call out from work. While I waited for the tow truck. Left me stranded at the coffee shop. Just wanted some coffee before I went to work. The guy on the phone tried to speak English and kept saying it was the battery. Then saying take the key out and put it back in. Kept telling him it was a push button start. He didn’t understand at all. So good job on wasting my day. Lost money on my paycheck. And having to pay for tow.

AutoMaxx Service Center has been great so far with the installation and care of my less than fortunate event that lead me here. Jacob made a great first impression and I hope it continues through the year of service that's needed.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
