Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Absolutely awful I will never recommend this company to anyone ever the customer service is awful you can’t even understand half of the people you talk to they are rude and they hang up on you when you ask to speak to someone you can actually understand and get help from! They refuse to let you speak to a manager or someone above them and then say I am the manager well you’re doing an awful job! The few Americans I have spoke to were wonderfull and very helpful but the foreigners I spoke to were very unhelpful and tbh clueless of there job not to mention they messed up on there end and resulted in me having my machine an extra 3 months longer than required because I was in correlation with the state of Tennessee and my account was flawless zero lockouts ect. My installer was very professional and helped me as best as he could but seems they don’t correlate with the services centers to well either in my opinion This is all just a money gimic!

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
