I needed windshield wipers. This is normally something one of my boys would help me with, but this particular son died last year, and I was at a loss (no pun intended.) The very kind man who helped me (sorry, I neglected to get his name) was unfortunately met with a woman who had a meltdown when faced with having to make a decision on what brand of wipers she needed. He graciously stepped away from his policy and chose what he would put on his wife's car (with my permission, of course), and helped return this grieving mom's heart to beating halfway normally again. He patiently helped choose something to get wet dog smell out of my car, and then installed the blades for me. Storm averted!

The Cookeville Advance Auto Parts continues its downward trend in customer service. I ordered radiator hoses, they didn’t have them in stock, so I ordered them and came back to get them. They apparently gave me a slip and a receipt. Both said unmistakably “Advance Auto Parts” at the top with the items and the part numbers and the total paid with tax. I went to try and return the item and they said it wasn’t a receipt so they could only give me a gift card. It was clearly obvious to everyone that I had bought the item from this company. As a business owner, I can’t imagine any circumstance for keeping employees like these that destroyed customer relationships so severely and frequently like the ones at this location.

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?
Expand FAQ item
Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
