The nearby AutoZone associate did a 10-sec search on their inventory, literally gave up, then suggested I try Google. So, I went down the road to this Advance Auto Parts where Frederick understood exactly what I was looking for, retrieved one of the two parts needed, and proceeded to find the second at the next nearest Advance Auto Parts store through his computer inventory. He could have stopped there, but he called the other store, had the associate there “put hands on” the part, and let him know I was coming to pick it up. This kind of service is not too common today. Needless to say, I’ll be looking to Frederick for my future auto parts assistance.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
