Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

If you’re choosing this or being able to support your family and driving to work every day, do not choose this you would rather be homeless. I was supposed to only have their own for six months as the first offender at 17 years old and the process to getting it off is made to where they keep you on it as long as possible. I ended up getting it off after a year and mind you you have to pay those payments every two weeks. They just wanna get one extra payment out of you and it becomes months. I had my full license without any restrictions and was driving without anything wrong with my license for three months before I could finally get this piece of crap off my car Mind you the service center was great. They help you through every step of the process and the service center. Can’t do anything about what Intoxalock does so this is not on them. Five stars for them.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
