Dear Les Schwab Regional Management,
I am respectfully requesting that someone above the Wilsonville store level review an ongoing issue involving my Cadillac Escalade, recently purchased tires, and damage to my custom 24-inch wheels.
I have been a Les Schwab customer for approximately 35 years. I have always respected the company’s reputation for standing behind its work, which is why this situation has been so disappointing.
I originally brought my Escalade to the Wilsonville location to purchase and install new tires. The tires were installed, I picked up the vehicle, and everything appeared to be operating properly. There were no leaks, flat tires, or known wheel issues.
Importantly, I did not even notice that my wheels had been damaged during installation. Manager RJ personally pointed the damage out to my wife and me. He assured us that Les Schwab would take full responsibility, repair the wheels back to essentially brand-new condition, and that the repair would cost us nothing.
My wife and I appreciated that response and trusted that Les Schwab was owning the situation.
When the vehicle was brought back for the promised wheel repair, the situation became increasingly complicated. I was informed that one wheel had a previously repaired crack from approximately three years earlier. That wheel had functioned without issue for years and had just had a new tire successfully mounted on it by Les Schwab.
Because the store was now uncomfortable reinstalling that wheel, I was initially told Les Schwab would locate a replacement rim. A few days later, Assistant Manager Blake contacted me and said a matching rim could not be found. At that point, I was instead offered a discount toward purchasing an entirely new set of wheels.
I did not believe that was fair. Had Les Schwab not damaged the wheels during the original installation, I would have simply continued driving my Escalade with the new tires I had just purchased.
Eventually, the store decided to remount the tires on my custom wheels after previously saying doing so was against policy.
When I went to pick up the Escalade, the driver-side rear tire was visibly flat and the wheels had adhesive, residue, scuffing, and additional cosmetic concerns.
During that interaction, Manager RJ became very short with me and ultimately told me that if I did not like the situation, I could take my vehicle and future business elsewhere.
I was stunned. My wife was present and heard the interaction as well.
Because of what was occurring, I began recording the interaction on my phone. The video documents the flat tire, the condition of the wheels, and portions of the conversation.
Because it was after hours, I simply asked that air be put into the tire so we could safely drive the vehicle home.
The very next day, my wife was stranded along I-205 because that exact same rear tire went flat again. She had to alter her workday and return directly to the Wilsonville location.
At that point, I was told that a different rim now supposedly had a hairline crack.
The tires had by then been mounted, removed, and remounted multiple times. The explanation continued to change, and eventually I was told the store had spent enough time and money trying to resolve the matter and would no longer take responsibility.
I repeatedly asked Assistant Manager Blake to please escalate the matter above RJ before making that the final decision. I was told no further action would be taken.
I ultimately ended up with factory wheels installed on my Escalade and my approximately $2,900 custom wheels and newly purchased tires removed from the vehicle.
Please have the Regional Manager, District Manager, or appropriate senior manager responsible for the Wilsonville location contact me directly.
I would also appreciate a corporate case or reference number for this complaint so there is a clear record of the matter being escalated beyond the store level.
Les Schwab, you're better then this!
