Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Very friendly staff, and knew what they were doing when I went there. I plan on continuing to go to that store when needed.

Need update price range of intoxalock device. This isn’t intoxalock fault but car toys need to have better customer service, shouldn’t laugh or smirk at customer which they did to me when I found out the price . I was told every time price range was way off! Intoxalock told me 150 to 200 I paid 313 or something around there , than worker at car toys smirked , I replied is that funny? I don’t think so he don’t know what I been thru what lil money I have and his manager didn’t find that wrong

Double the price of the install quote and broke the tail light of my Mercedes. The only reason they get one instead of zero stars is they didn’t charge me to ruin my property. Avoid Car Toys if you have any other options!

Installation took about 90 minutes. The installer had to change something when the sales rep was trying to train me. Not a big deal. Took a few blows to get the hang of it. So far no issues. Not a big fan of having to blow into it while driving. I would suggest that should or could be called a distraction.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle. Payment is made directly to the service center at the time of installation. For more on cost breakdowns, you can read our cost of ignition interlock device guide.
