Reserved an 8 passenger suv 3 weeks prior to trip. Upon arrival told that no 8 passenger vehicle available asked if i can do a 7 seater… I explained that I ordered an 8 passenger for a reason… the lot attendant did his best to accommodate eventually leaving us no choice but to take a 12 passenger express van… that was fun trying to find parking in downtown portland… van served its purpose i drive a large truck so maneuvering about wasnt overwhelming for me. On final day loading to airport the rear door latch would latch, striker wouldnt grab… had to bungee the doors closed to get to airport… explain my entire experience at drop off, porter could care less … get a call20 minutes later asking for back story on door… now they are trying to get my insurance to pay… the initial receptionist was friendly and porter did best to accommodate.. rest was mediocre at best… i guess reservations dont mean much to companies… would only rent if was my only final option , even then Uber XL is more appealing

Pros: Great car, good price and minimal wait. Con: I did not appreciate being accused of scratching the car upon return. First, I couldn’t even see what scratch the rep was talking about as the vehicle was dirty from driving 500+ miles with some rain. Second, any scratch that existed would have been there before my usage as we hit nothing nor could another car have caused it. I also drive Sprinter vans and trailers commercially so driving a Camry is pretty easy. Third, they didn’t check the vehicle with me beforehand like they should do to properly establish a baseline. Fourth, I did - like I always do - a walk around to check for damage before taking the car, but the area she was pointing to was so low on the rear door that there is no way I could have reasonably been expected to see any scratch there standing at 6’7” with a car parked next to it at the lot at PDX. The rep called over the manager and he caved to my statements. I know rental car companies overseas can try to pull these shenanigans, but I don’t expect it in the US. I will now take photos before I leave with any rental car even here in the US to have proof to back up the car was returned the way I got it.

The girl at the counter was great but when we went to get a vehicle we were given one that needed an oil change before our 14 days of rental was over. Although they would not know how many miles we would be driving the vehicle, since most recommend that the oil be changed at 15% remaining life, they rented us one that must have been around 20% and knew we would be driving it at least 1000 miles (typically 10% of life) just to get to the rental place we were to return the van to. We lost nearly 2 hours of our vacation trying to deal with a vehicle with only 1% life left on its oil. We rented our vehicle from Alamo, however I believe it was Enterprise (same company) that the van came from when we went down to where the vehicles were. Also the man that was helping us to get to the van seemed more like he was trying to get away from us than to be there to answer any questions, such as where were the keys to the van! Alamo at the airport we returned the van to did address this issue and make up for it, but we never should have been given the particular van we were given, by the PDX Alamo.

Possibly the worst car rental experience ever. Not the vehicle itself, not the staff at the garage when getting the vehicle. Not returning the auto - all these people were amazing and super helpful. The actual checking in at the rental counter was INSANE! And yes, my frustration is possibly colored by a 2 hr flight delay, but the service and speed at the counter do matter. There were 2 people in line before me and 1 already at the counter. It sill took almost 40 minutes. YES, 40 minutes to get the paperwork and that was only because I kept the conversation to the minimum and essentially answered the questions before they were even asked. The lady at the counter serving Enterprise, National, etc. (one lady covering 3 related companies) was getting people going WITH A SMILE AND JOKES at 5 times the speed.. The thought has crossed my mind multiple times to just walk over to a different car rental in the terminal and just bite the bullet on a more expensive rental... I travel a lot and rent cars often - this was beyond ridiculous in terms of service. I will think long and hard before going through Alamo again!

After traveling most of the day by plane, I waited in line patiently for over an hour to get my rental when I got to the desk I explained to the lady you had there were a lot of people that just were after normal vehicles that I talked to in line and I was willing to upgrade as much as I needed to because I still had a 3 1/2 hour drive. She informed me that that was fine. That was great. Just tell the people outside once I got through that then I went outside and had another hour or so weight on vehicles because they didn’t have vehicles most everybody said that worked for Alamo that they wasn’t aware that they were gonna have this many people which I don’t understand that if you make reservations, they should be able to see how many reservations they have for that day anyways before I got I have walked outside and saw that they had a suburban that was sitting there one of the hiring vehicles, which was the reason why I told the lady at the desk the whole hour over an hour that I stood in line and then the whole hour, so that I stood in line outside that suburban sit there the entire time along with several other vehicles that were more expensive a lot more expensive. The lady outside told me when I asked if I could have that that she may need that for something else and continue to make me wait then they brought me over to two cars that were the base model Nissan rogues which wasn’t even what I had ordered in a week ahead of time anyways and that’s what I got stuck with no help not really. But by this time, I had already wasted 2 1/2 hours sitting there waiting on a rental that I reserved over a week ahead of time and still had a 3 1/2 hour drive ahead of me so I was stuck with what I could get when there was 10 or 12 other vehicles that were still sitting there they’ve been sitting there for the last 30 minutes or so that was actually what I rented
