I’m extremely disappointed with my recent rental experience with Enterprise, especially because this is now the second poor experience I’ve had reserving a truck from this branch.
The first time I reserved a truck here, I arrived 15 minutes after my scheduled pickup time only to be told that no truck was available. I had received no call or warning beforehand. When I arrived, I was told they were “just about to call me” to let me know they didn’t have one.
What made that experience even worse was that I wasn’t offered a comparable vehicle, an alternative vehicle, or any other solution. I was simply told they had nothing available, and that was it. I had made a reservation and planned around having that vehicle, yet I wasn’t notified until I physically showed up—and Enterprise made no attempt to provide another option.
Because of that experience, I went out of my way this time to make sure the same thing didn’t happen again. I called two days before my rental specifically to verify that a truck would be available and was told it wouldn’t be an issue. I called again early on the day of my rental and was told they were expecting to have one and that they would personally call me with an update.
When I arrived, the agent told me it was honestly “a miracle” to get a truck during the summer and that I was extremely lucky they had this one available.
That’s a pretty concerning thing to hear after making a reservation and calling twice to confirm it. If getting the vehicle you reserved is essentially a matter of luck, customers should be told that upfront—not after they’ve arranged their schedules and transportation around a confirmed reservation.
Unfortunately, getting the truck was only the beginning of the problems.
The truck had only about 3/8 of a tank of fuel and clearly had not been properly cleaned or prepared. There were crumbs, dirty cup holders, fingerprints and smudges, evidence of a spilled drink, and unknown stains/substances on both the passenger seat and back seat. There was even a softball left inside from the previous customer. The truck bed contained random bolts and garbage.
Taken together, it was difficult to believe anyone had actually gone through and properly cleaned or inspected the truck after the previous renter returned it.
The most concerning issue was the windshield wipers. I had to drive through rain and quickly discovered that the blades were so worn out they couldn’t properly clear the windshield. Visibility became a legitimate safety issue.
The wipers were bad enough that I had to stop during my rental, spend my own money, and purchase replacement windshield wipers just so I could safely continue driving Enterprise’s vehicle.
That is unacceptable. A customer should never have to purchase basic safety-related maintenance items for a rental vehicle. Wiper blades are inexpensive, obvious, and incredibly easy to inspect. If something that basic was missed, combined with the condition and cleanliness of the truck, it makes me seriously question what inspection was actually performed before the vehicle was released.
I understand that rental trucks can be in high demand during the summer. However, that doesn’t excuse accepting reservations without confidence that a vehicle will be available, failing to notify customers when one isn’t available, offering no alternative when a reservation can’t be fulfilled, and then providing a vehicle that appears to have been turned around without being properly cleaned or inspected.
A reservation shouldn’t be a matter of luck, and a customer shouldn’t have to clean up after the previous renter or spend their own money replacing parts to make an Enterprise vehicle safe to drive.
After two disappointing experiences with this same branch, I think Enterprise needs to seriously review how this location handles reservations, customer communication, vehicle availability, cleanliness, vehicle preparation, and basic safety inspections.
Adding to this review, I followed Kim’s directions down below and was told I would be contacted. 3 days and nothing so far……
