- MMMikeJun 26, 20261.0Dropped off a boat I just obtained to have a once over check before using it. I then got a call from the service department weeks later saying the engine block is cracked, likely from freezing. They offered to keep the boat for parts or charge me thousands for an engine replacement. I thought this was odd as I knew the previous owner who takes care of things. I picked up the boat, had somebody else check it out. They said Mel’s marina never even started the engine, winter plugs were still out. The boat has no issues and has been working great with no repairs needed. There is no crack anywhere on the engine block anybody can locate that Mel’s said was present. Either they are shady scammers or totally incompetent.
- SSSkipperJun 25, 20265.0Stopped by Mel’s to buy a steering rod for my mercury outboard but they didn’t have the part on hand and would have to order it . I happened to see a man who had helped me with the same part several years ago. I told him the story how he helped me several years ago and reminded him he told me it would probably break again sometime in the future because he has seen that part fail before. I told him the parts man couldn’t find the part so he went to look again and couldn’t find it. He told me he would check and see if he had a used part that would get me back in the water. After awhile he came back with a part that fit and a great price. That is what customer service is about. Great job Mel’s
