Our experience with Enterprise was unacceptable and one of the worst rental experiences we have ever had.
From the moment we picked up our rental vehicle, it was obvious that it had not been properly inspected before being rented. The vehicle had multiple issues, including a tire with a hole, making it unsafe to drive. No customer should ever be given a vehicle in that condition.
To make matters even worse, the inside of the vehicle had an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. The odor was so strong that it made the vehicle extremely uncomfortable to use.
This was not just an inconvenience—it was a serious health hazard. My family includes asthma sufferers, and we were traveling with our 3-month-old baby. Being forced to breathe secondhand smoke residue inside an enclosed vehicle was completely unacceptable. A vehicle with such a strong smoke odor should never be rented to anyone, especially a family with an infant.
In addition, we were not even able to safely open the windows to try to ventilate the vehicle. At the time, air quality in Ohio was also affected by wildfire smoke coming from Canada, which made opening the windows unsafe for our family. This left us with no safe option to improve the air inside the vehicle.
We immediately reported these issues, expecting Enterprise to resolve them promptly. Instead, it took two full days before we were provided with another vehicle because the location claimed they did not have enough vehicles available. Losing two days of our family vacation because of a preventable problem was extremely frustrating.
The management made the situation even worse. Rather than showing concern or taking responsibility, we felt like we had to fight for every step of the process. There was very little empathy, poor communication, and no urgency despite the serious safety and health concerns we raised.
After everything we went through, they did eventually give us back the extra days they had taken from us, but that was the bare minimum. It still did not make up for the losses we experienced, including missed and non-refundable tickets in our next state due to having to wait for them to figure out a replacement vehicle. The second vehicle they provided did not smell, but the GPS was not connecting properly, causing further delays and frustration.
After all of this, the only other compensation we received was a small reduction in the rental charges, which was simply taken from our security deposit. That did not come close to making up for the lost vacation time, the stress, the inconvenience, or the safety and health risks our family was exposed to.
We expected clean, safe, and well-maintained vehicles from Enterprise. Instead, we received a vehicle with a damaged tire, a strong cigarette smoke odor, poor customer service, and management that failed to properly address the situation.
Long story short: stay away from this location. Their vehicles are not reliable, and they are not suitable if you want a safe and stress-free vacation.
Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this location. We sincerely hope Enterprise improves its vehicle inspections, ensures smoke-free vehicles are actually smoke-free, and trains its management team to respond appropriately when customers are placed in unsafe situations.
