I was replacing my dead battery myself and asked him to watch and make sure I was doing everything correctly. He was patient, helpful, and gave me great guidance throughout the process. He also recommended using battery terminal protector pads and anti-corrosion terminal grease to help prevent corrosion on the battery terminals, which I really appreciated. It was a great experience at Advance Auto Parts. Rich truly went above and beyond and is a great asset to the store and the company. I’ll definitely be happy to come back and work with him again. Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
