I have been a loyal customer of this brand whenever I needed their services for over 20 years. Since early April, I have been renting a midsize SUV from this location, paying over $1,000 a month. While the local branch staff and the manager (Bryce) have been consistently fantastic—even supporting my small business by ordering catering—the Area Manager, Zach Cossack, single-handedly destroyed my relationship with this company.
Recently, my payment method was compromised. Bryce was professional and accommodating, allowing me to use my security deposit to cover the week while I waited for my replacement card in the mail. The exact day my new card arrived, I went to the branch fully intending to settle my balance and refund my deposit.
Instead of a standard follow-up regarding the delay, I woke up to an incredibly rude, unprofessional email from Zach Cossack threatening to send my account to risk assessment within 24 hours. He then contradicted his own email with an equally rude text giving me until 4 PM.
Coming from a corporate management background myself, I pulled Zach aside to politely offer feedback on how to communicate with clients professionally. Rather than taking accountability, he blamed "corporate" for the message, snapped, "Well, if you paid, then you wouldn't hear from us," and then outrageously accused me of attempting to STEAL the vehicle.
I did not raise my voice or become irate. I simply asked for an apology for the baseless accusation. Zach flat-out refused, continued to berate me, and stormed off like a child.
His behavior is not just toxic to customers; it is clearly ruining the workplace. While Zach was away, staff members confided in me about his aggressive, hostile attitude, with one veteran employee admitting they plan to quit specifically because of his constant harassment.
When Zach overheard the staff speaking to me, he retaliated. He refused to rent to me any longer and actually called law enforcement. When the police arrived, they completely sided with me, told me Zach was in the wrong, and allowed me to leave with the vehicle. On a petty power trip, Zach used his managerial authority to have me trespassed.
The ultimate irony? I immediately went over to a competitor, rented the exact same vehicle, and saved $75.
So, thank you, Zach Cossack. Your complete lack of emotional intelligence, hostility, and horrible customer service just cost your company a 20-year loyal customer and over $1,000 a month in guaranteed revenue. If regional leadership is paying attention, you seriously need to evaluate the toxic environment your Area Manager is creating for both your clients and your employees.
I would like to follow up with company leadership regarding this matter.
I do, however, want to condone, Sherman, Missy, Breah, Bryce, Andrew, and the rest of staff (I apologize I don't know their names.) For their professionalism and dedication to the field they represent.
