Safelite Akron is a nightmare to work with.
Editing to add:
The issues didn't end once the repair was approved and the rental car was arranged.
I dropped my car off at the repair shop on 6/29/26 for the repairs approved by Safelite. Before heading there, I called Enterprise to confirm my rental car was ready. To my surprise, they had no record that I needed the vehicle that day because Safelite had submitted the reservation without any pickup or return dates. I'm still not sure how that's even possible. Fortunately, Enterprise was able to get everything sorted out, and arranged a shuttle to take me to pick up the rental.
The repair itself went smoothly, and the body shop had my car ready for pickup on 6/30/26. Unfortunately, another issue arose: the shop never received payment for the services rendered, in which I had to call Safelite corporate, yet again.
Ian had apparently "forgotten" to authorize payment to the repair shop—his explanation to Safelite Corporate. As expected, the shop refused to release my vehicle until payment was received.
Rather than immediately resolving the issue, Ian called the shop and attempted to persuade them to release my car without payment, which they understandably refused to do. He initially claimed the payment process could take several days, the same information Safelite Corporate gave me while offering to extend my rental car if necessary. Miraculously, once the shop stood its ground, Ian managed to have the payment authorized in about 10 minutes.
Original review:
During my windshield replacement in March, the technician spilled sealant on my bumper and left it to cure. I immediately contacted corporate and filed a warranty claim. They sent another technician to my home to assess the damage and attempt to remove it. He was extremely kind and professional, but after seeing the severity of the damage, he said he wasn't comfortable attempting the repair and escalated it to his supervisor.
That's when the nightmare began.
At first, the supervisor, Chris, was apologetic and had me bring my car into the shop so they could try to remove the cured sealant. By then, nearly two weeks had passed since the incident. I dropped my car off first thing in the morning, but the repair felt rushed. Not only were they unable to remove the sealant, they further damaged both the plastic trim and the paint. To make matters worse, they left the cleaning chemicals sitting on the bumper instead of rinsing them off, causing even more damage.
I was then required to spend my own time obtaining multiple repair estimates, which further delayed the process due to my work schedule. After I emailed the estimates to the shop, I never received a response. I contacted corporate, who assured me they had forwarded everything, yet several days later the shop claimed they still hadn't received them.
By June 15, nearly three months after the original damage, I was still waiting. It then took another 12 days for the shop managers, Ian and Chris, to finally approve the repair.
Within hours of receiving approval, I scheduled the repair for the following Monday. I was told a rental car would be arranged, but I never received confirmation. After following up with corporate yet again, I learned the shop had never even submitted the rental request. Corporate attempted to call the store twice while I was on hold, but no one answered. It ultimately took the district manager getting involved before the rental reservation was finally made.
What should have been a straightforward warranty claim turned into months of delays, poor communication, repeated follow-ups, and additional damage to my vehicle. I have spent countless hours chasing updates and correcting mistakes that should never have been mine to deal with. I cannot recommend Safelite Akron based on my experience.
