Case Number: 500423282
I am writing to formally report a concerning customer experience involving a Geek Squad AutoTech employee during my scheduled dash-camera installation appointment on August 25, 2026.
I have already reported this matter to Best Buy Customer Care, and a case has been opened:
I had a confirmed Geek Squad AutoTech installation appointment for 1:15 PM, and I have the appointment confirmation showing this time.
When I arrived for my appointment, another customer also arrived for an appointment. I was informed that the other customer’s appointment had previously been cancelled because they did not answer a phone call. Despite my having a valid and confirmed 1:15 PM appointment, the situation appeared to interfere with my scheduled service.
More concerning to me was the conduct of the AutoTech employee. His communication with me was abrupt, dismissive, and rude, and I felt that he was unwilling to perform my installation despite my confirmed appointment. I did not feel that I was treated professionally or respectfully as a Best Buy customer.
I had purchased a Nextbase iQ dash camera with professional installation included at $0, as documented on my receipt. During the appointment, I was also told that I needed to independently obtain an additional OBD2 J1962 female-to-open-pigtail cable with a mounting bracket before the installation could be completed.
This additional part requirement had not been communicated to me when I purchased the product or scheduled the installation. I would therefore also like Best Buy to verify whether requiring this particular third-party cable is part of an approved Geek Squad installation procedure for the Nextbase iQ, and why I was instructed to independently purchase it.
My primary concern is not simply that the installation was not completed. It is the combination of how my confirmed appointment was handled, the employee’s conduct toward me, and the unexpected requirement for an additional component.
I respectfully request that Best Buy review:
• The appointment records for my confirmed 1:15 PM AutoTech appointment on August 25, 2026.
• The circumstances involving the other customer’s appointment and why it affected my scheduled service.
• The conduct and professionalism of the AutoTech employee who interacted with me.
• Whether the additional J1962 female-to-open-pigtail cable was legitimately required under Best Buy’s approved installation procedure.
• Why this requirement was not disclosed before my installation appointment.
I can provide my appointment confirmation, purchase receipt showing the $0 installation service, and a photo/details of the additional cable I was instructed to purchase.
I would appreciate having this matter reviewed and documented under Case #500423282. I would also appreciate confirmation that my concern has been received and information regarding any appropriate next steps.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Ashif Shaik
