I WILL NOT BE RETURNING
I am extremely disappointed with my encounter at Cortese Mitsubishi- after my interactions and the racism I experienced with this dealership, I cannot recommend this location.
I specifically want to address my experience with Derek Bridges, a sales associate.
The first time I visited this location, I was dealing with an ongoing issue involving my vehicle and the difficulties I had been experiencing trying to get it properly registered in New York. After explaining my situation, Derek’s response was that the best thing for me to do was to “get some snow tires.” That response felt dismissive and completely failed to address the actual issue I was there trying to resolve.
Unfortunately, my second visit was even more disappointing. I returned because I was trying to figure out what options I had and whether there was anything the dealership could do to help me. Instead of Derek working through the situation with me, he brought his sales manager over to speak with me and explain the same position he had already given me. The manager essentially repeated the same information, and ultimately I was told there was nothing they could do. At this point, they had not even run my credit or actually submitted any application to any bank.
What was most upsetting was Derek’s demeanor throughout the conversation. After his manager left the table, Derek stood there with his legs crossed and said, “Yeah, you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.” I found that comment incredibly insensitive, unprofessional and borderline racist.
There is a professional way to tell a customer that you cannot resolve their situation. What I did not expect was to explain a difficult financial and vehicle-related situation and then have someone respond to me in a way that felt dismissive and lacking empathy. I wasn’t asking for special treatment. I was asking for someone to listen, communicate respectfully, and genuinely see if there was anything that could be done.
To all of my fellow new graduate nurses who are getting ready to start their careers and may be looking for a new vehicle — I DO NOT recommend Cortese Mitsubishi based on my experience.
To parents who have students attending the University of Rochester and may be looking for a vehicle for their son or daughter — I DO NOT recommend this dealership based on my experience. Please note, any vehicle from Mitsubishi will be top down; worth less than what you paying and trading it in for something else down the line will be difficult.
To my fellow medical professionals in the Rochester community — I DO NOT recommend this dealership based on my experience. As a new graduate registered nurse who will be working in and serving this community, and as someone who has previously worked in the Pittsford and Victor communities, I believe strongly in professionalism, empathy, and treating people with dignity — especially when they’re already dealing with a difficult situation.
Every customer deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their financial circumstances or whether the dealership believes it can ultimately resolve their problem. My experience left me feeling dismissed, disrespected, and unsupported.
Extremely disappointing!
