- PSPaul Swiatek3 days ago5.0I recently purchased brake pads for my Mazda, thinking that I would not need the rotors. After thinking about it, and feeling the car shimmy a bit when breaking, I decided that I would change the rotors as well. Tonight John and Mike took the extra time with me to explain that pads and rotors are bundled together to provide a discount for the customer. Thus, I was able to return the previously purchased unused pads and buy the bundle together. Extra work for them, with no hassles. THIS is why I keep coming back to this store. They acted like true SERVICE professionals, putting me first, building trust in their store. They brought the stuff out to my car and showed that it can still be done the way it should be. Way to go John and Mike!

HOW DO BRAKES WORK?

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
