Finding a shop that will schedule a NYS inspection and actually keep the appointment is, frustrating. After deciding to leave a competitor, after multiple made, confirmed and subsequently cancelled appointments, I made an online appointment with Monroe and prayed. Well, in the shop to on the lift, 5 minutes. Inspected and out in 30 minutes. Great experience. The shop was clean and the staff was friendly. I've had mixed experiences with Monroe but the Rensselaer shop is doing it right.

Best auto place in Rensselaer! Always quick and thorough and honest. Been coming here for every issue on our new (old car) and they keep us informed and up to date on what is needed and when.

I don’t write many reviews, but these guys impressed me enough that I genuinely wanted to take the time to write this one. My daughter and I were leaving the house Saturday morning to grab breakfast when my tire pressure warning came on. One tire was reading 7 PSI — normally around 35 — so I was basically riding on the rim. After a failed attempt to put air in it, I pulled into Monro because it was the closest place I could safely get to. I awkwardly parked right in the way of their garage bays, and the manager came out to see what was going on. He couldn’t have been nicer about it. He looked at the tire, helped me assess the situation, and actually suggested that before I bought anything from him, I should call the place where I originally purchased the tires to see if I had a warranty. If I did, he offered to help me get the spare on so I could take it there and save myself a considerable amount of money. He looked up the replacement tire for me and it was going to be nearly $300. I’ll admit, given the situation I was in, part of me wondered whether I was getting the “you’re stuck here” price. So while they let me sit in their parking lot — still awkwardly in the way — I called around. Turns out, his price was right in line with what I was quoted elsewhere. I also learned I didn’t have a warranty, so I went back inside and told him that since he had been so helpful, I’d just have them replace the tire. At that point, they easily could have sold me a $300 tire. My daughter and I walked over to grab breakfast and came back about 45 minutes later. The news? They didn’t think the tire was destroyed after all and believed they could probably plug it for around a tenth of the replacement cost. Great. Even better. About 10 minutes later, the technician came out and asked if he could show me the tire himself. He had pulled a small needle out of it, but even with the tire inflated to nearly 60 PSI, he couldn’t actually find an air leak. He explained that he could drill the hole out enough to put a plug in it, but he didn’t recommend damaging a tire that currently wasn’t leaking just so they could charge me to repair it. Since I live nearby, they suggested I drive it and bring it back if I had any further issues, and they’d dig deeper. Then came the bill: $0. They had taken the tire off, inspected it, removed the needle, tested it, put everything back together, spent time explaining the situation to me — and charged me nothing. They just asked that I consider leaving a review about my experience. When you pull into an auto repair shop with a nearly flat tire and very few options, you hope you’re dealing with honest people. Unfortunately, I think most of us have had experiences that make us a little skeptical. These guys had every opportunity to take advantage of the situation. They could have sold me a $300 tire I had already agreed to buy. They could have plugged it unnecessarily and charged me for that. They did neither. They were honest, hardworking, friendly, and completely transparent with me from the moment I pulled in. That kind of integrity earns my business. I’ll absolutely be going back to Monro for anything I can in the future. Hopefully this review helps someone else make the same choice.

I went for an inspection on 7/22 after never being there before. The mechanics ended up having to look at my parking brake and took the back tires off to do so. Immediately driving away I heard a rubbing sound coming from my left back tire when turning my wheel… took it right back to the shop and the guy said he didn’t hear anything and I was all set. Looking into it myself I found that they snapped one of my lug nuts off while taking off the tires and did not inform me what so ever. Will not be going back to get it repaired, or any time in the future.
