Terrible experience. Owner/main mechanic Donald is the man. However whoever is in office no good. Zero patience, poor customer service. Easily agitated. Cuts off question to talk. Disrespectful, unaccomadating. Whoever worked on our car did a short cut job to install our reverse light bulb. Went on YouTube in the back to attempt to figure out the issue. Now it doesn’t work and at first gave a whole run around of thoroughly inspecting the area if we bring the car in but the first time we brought car in area should have been inspected. Raising voice to my wife and concern is about a reverse light bulb that they installed incorrectly. Not happy at all. Will not come here again. This is why we work on our own cars

Sandra's knowledge of my vehicle blew me away. Sandra and Donald were professional. They kept me updated throughout the process. I am happy with the service that I received.

I paid $4,000 for a transmission on my old Volvo 850 to be rebuilt and put in and one month after the warranty expired the entire valve body of the Volvo was burned out making the transmission no longer usable. I consulted another mechanic (Robert Spinner, a Volvo 850 specialist) who is a specialist in my Volvo and he was on the phone with me and with Surgical and he asked the question "who was responsible for putting the transmission fluid in the transmission so that this wouldn't happen?" and Surgical's reply was THEY were responsible for putting the transmission fluid in. Obviously, they did not put in the right amount of transmission fluid, so the valve body burned out after me paying all this money ($4000). So my car had to be scrapped. I foolishly went back to them after I purchased another and even a better more powerful t5r series of Volvo of the same model. I had some work done there, and at that point, somehow, my overhead courtesy map light became broken when it was previously working perfectly when I took the car in. I informed the office personnel (Sandra) of the broken switch which they broke and she at that time told me that they would gladly replace the light map fixture since the fixture was now unusable due to the broken switch. After attempting to have them replace the lamp and agreeing to rewrite my previously unfavorable review of their work if they replaced the map light fixture as they had indicated they would, they decided that they (Sandra) were not going to replace my map light fixture thus going back on her word. She claimed to not remember me speaking to her about it. Whether she remembered or not the smart move would have been to replace the lamp for a customer who has spent lots of money there over the 6 YEARS that I had been coming to this shop in order to maintain good customer relations. She felt like I was "strong arming" her. I have spent well over $5,000 in this shop over the years, and I thought that was a most disgraceful way to handle a small complaint. Just replacing what you broke would have been the honorable and smart thing to do. In addition to that, my newer Volvo was experiencing a transmission issue, and their solution was to pour in some sort of transmission treatment, which only made things worse. Eventually, I found a more qualified mechanic who replaced my transmission for a quarter of the price of the first transmission replacement that I had done on my previous Volvo. So not only did I WASTE my $4,000, but I also found a mechanic who would do it for a quarter of that amount and who has enough honesty and integrity to honor their word to a customer. In addition to all of that, my glove box was removed in order to check the blower motor, and the 6 screws were never put back to secure the glove box, so it rattles when driving. Now I have to find the replacements and buy the screws myself in order to put them back in. Again, this is an example of poor workmanship. Donald is a good mechanic, but the unqualified mechanics that work in there are not. My 850t5r now runs perfectly. The takeaway from this is... If you have a lot of MONEY and TIME to WASTE, then this is the shop for you. Especially if you own a Volvo. The SMART way to prevent bad reviews is to communicate. Be HONEST and keep your word and respect the customer and their car. Simple!!! Attached is a photo of my car being towed to the scrap yard after the rebuilt transmission burnt out due to their lack of knowledge.😠 I have lost confidence in this repair shop. One thing that they do correctly is PRINTING OUT YOUR BILL.$$

My experience with Surgical Auto Repair in Mount Vernon was extremely disappointing. I brought my vehicle in on December 15, 2025, for a head gasket repair and was told the job would take approximately two weeks. Instead, I did not get my vehicle back until March 27, 2026—over three months later. Throughout that entire period, I struggled to get updates, and every time I called, I was given a different excuse about waiting for parts or other delays. This was an insurance claim. The original estimate submitted was $4,820.32. The insurance company initially approved $2,253.26 and later approved an additional $809.00, for a total insurance payment of $3,062.26. Based on those numbers, plus an engine mount I requested to be replaced for approximately $140, I expected my out-of-pocket costs to be much lower. Instead, I ended up paying over $5,000 myself, and I never received a clear explanation that justified why my share was more than what the insurance company paid. What makes this even more frustrating is that there were multiple invoices, totaling go $5,563.83, and it was extremely difficult to get a straightforward answer regarding what I actually owed and why. I repeatedly asked for pricing information and was continuously delayed or ignored. To make matters worse, after months of unanswered calls and frustration, I visited the shop seeking answers. While speaking with one employee about my concerns, another employee Christian had his light pointed at my face and when I asked him to please turn the light off he rudely told me to leave the shop rather than addressing the issues I was trying to resolve. While the vehicle was at the shop, it was parked beneath an area where construction work was being performed. Dust and debris accumulated on the vehicle, and when I finally received it back, it appeared that someone had wiped the entire vehicle with a dry rag, leaving scratches throughout the paint. The car also sat through the winter for months without being driven. By the time the repair was completed, the battery was dead. I was told the battery was bad and had already been disposed of before I was given any opportunity to inspect it myself, forcing me to purchase a new battery. The excessive repair time, poor communication, confusing billing, condition in which the vehicle was returned, and lack of customer service made this one of the worst automotive repair experiences I have ever had. I would strongly discourage anyone from bringing their vehicle to this shop for anyone considering doing so.
