Used to be good. I have been coming here for 12 years for regular oil changes and inspections on both my vehicles. I've purchased tires from them several times, as well as had brakes and rotors done multiple times. For years I did not have issues. Until now. I went in a few days ago to drop my truck off to get it inspected. I noticed a new manager and new faces. I did not see one familiar face which made me skeptical. Still this place had done right by me for a long time so I left it with them. I received a call a couple of hours later stating it failed because of rear shocks and tires. I was surprised- I bought tires from them not that long ago and they only had about 10k miles on them. They told me the rear shocks were bad and that caused wear and clapping on the tires so they could not pass it. I went to get my truck and spoke to Alex. Seemed like a nice guy and was polite but the info he gave me didn't add up. He showed me the wear on the tire- that definitely happened. But he could not really answer why the inspection failed. The law states that shocks have to be broken or missing to fail. He agreed that wasn't the case. Tires have to measure less than a specific tread depth to fail and that wasn't the case either. Also, the story changed- it was now only one shock and tire that were the issue but on the phone they said both shocks and tires. I mentioned to Alex that something was off and that the truck didn't need to fail. It should have passed. He said it was the technicians decision. If that is the case, the technician got it 100% wrong. I told him that I only had 10k miles on the tires and that I purchased them there, and I also said that the prior times I bought my truck in for oil change and tire rotation, it was clear they didn't rotate the tires as they said, because if they did, they would have seen this months ago. He agreed that they didn't rotate my tires (note, he was not at this shop during those times- he was at another shop and was not involved in those instances). He said if I wanted the work done, he would give me a good price. I said I already paid over 1k for the tires, that the work wasn't done right prior and that the truck didn't need to fail, so I would not be using their services again and would take my business elsewhere. I said I can't trust them anymore. He understood and I left. I immediately called my brother in law, a former mechanic turned Matco Tool truck owner and he confirmed everything I had said/thought. He said they should not have failed the inspection and gave me the name of a mechanic he trusts that is about 30-minutes from me. I brought my truck there this morning and he put it on the lift. He said the wear on the tire was not enough to fail. He showed me the rear shocks. They are in excellent condition- I saw for myself. They don't need to be replaced. A simple tire rotation, which I requested at every oil change and which Mavis lied and told me was done regularly, will help get my money's worth for the tire before it needs to be replaced. And 20-minutes later I was out the door with a fresh inspection sticker. No issues at all. I have no idea what happened at Mavis but it sure seems like they were trying to get me to pay for services I didn't need. That's BS. I have spent many thousands of dollars there over the years. Now, I will never again set foot in that place. I'll go back to changing my oil myself and anytime I need tires or repairs, I've now got a new shop. I'll gladly travel 30-minutes away for someone I can trust. Shame on you, Mavis. You treated a long time customer poorly and tried to pray on me but little did you know that I actually have knowledge and knew you were giving me a load of garbage. Your sleazy sales tactics cost you a loyal, long time customer. I'm considering reporting you to the DMV complaint unit so you dont do this to anyone else.

The Mavis of east northport has been spectacular! I’ve been a frequent flyer for quite some time and I must say they go above and beyond every single time, it can feel intimidating as a woman to walk into a mechanic shop as a woman but they have earned my complete trust. The store manager Alex is very pleasant and friendly, definitely puts my mind at ease every time I come in for service. A really fantastic team with an amazing mechanic, Christian, who is always honest and capable of fixing anything! I highly recommend this shop for all your cars needs, you’d be in the best hands 🙌🏻

Came in because I needed a new tire asap and these guys really helped me out. Super chill staff, good prices, and they got everything done way faster than I expected. Didn’t feel pressured into buying extra stuff either, which I appreciated. Definitely recommend.
