The gentleman at the front desk was not friendly or helpful. He simply stated that his machine was down and that he could not service fleet vehicles. This is now the second Mavis location I’ve visited with the same issue. Very disappointing experience, especially when trying to get a company fleet vehicle serviced.

I brought my car in for an NYS inspection. The attendant flagged a small tear in the CV boot of my trans axle assembly and said it does not pass for inspection. I took a picture and noted the tear was less than an 1/4" and was not actively leaking grease. I did an AI search and found that this condition is not listed as criteria for rejection. I showed the attendant, but he did not agree and became adamant it was a part of the inspection. I disagreed and left and got my car inspected by another repair shop without incident.
According to the official NYS DMV Inspection Regulations, CV boots and drive axles are completely omitted from the official failure criteria. A vehicle can only be rejected if the torn boot has flung so much grease that it actively contaminates the brake pads or rotors, which falls under a braking system failure.
This shop wasted my time, fishing for a non critical repair and trying to hold my car hostage with an inspection. Shame on you guys.
