  My Nightmare with Penske Truck Rental: Unreliable Trucks and Absent Corporate SupportWhen you pay a premium for a truck rental, you expect reliable vehicles and a company that stands behind its service. Unfortunately, my recent experience with Penske Truck Rental was a logistical nightmare filled with unfulfilled promises, broken-down vehicles, and a shockingly incompetent corporate support team.It started with a confirmed, two-day warehouse-to-warehouse move on Long Island. I arrived at the Islip, NY location with a crew of five men ready to load 60+ pianos, only to find out there was no truck for us. After waiting for over an hour, neither the local staff nor corporate had any solutions. We were forced to cancel and scramble for a U-Haul—and to add insult to injury, Penske hit me with a $100 cancellation fee after promising it would be free.After spending hours on the phone disputing the fee, I had to book a second reservation in Stamford, CT. We picked up the Penske truck, but it barely made it back to Long Island. Engine malfunction warnings were blaring, and the truck's alarm system was beeping out of control.By the time we pulled across the street from our loading site, the local office was closed. Corporate offered absolutely no help, claiming there was nothing they could do. We only got moving again thanks to a heroic mechanic who happened to still be working and cleared the engine codes for us.Because I didn't trust the truck to start the next morning, I had to pay out-of-pocket for Ubers back and forth. When I called corporate the next day for a replacement, they were completely unhelpful. (A special shout-out to Dexter at the Stamford branch, who was actually the only person who tried to help). The night prior, Roadside Assistance told me they couldn't help me and that no one would be dispatched after 7:30.Because of their service failures, I had to drive an extra hour out of my way on a Friday to West Haven, CT, just to pick up a functioning truck.It is completely unacceptable to take customers' money, charge a premium, and provide trucks that are either not there or completely unserviceable. If you are a business owner or planning a major move, take your money somewhere else—because Penske will leave you stranded and charge you for the privilege.

  How can I even give 1 star when there is no truck. The option is a truck without a lift-gate from a location a half hour away even though I need to move pallets. Their excuse is that I must have called during lunch so their phones rolled to the other location so of course it was my fault. I guess ultimately it was my fault since this isn’t the first time it has happened yet I keep coming back. Next time it’s worth the ride to Ryder in Ronkonkoma.
