  Very disappointing experience with R.C. Lacy Subaru. My son was traveling when warning lights came on in his 2013 Subaru Impreza. He had already stopped at AutoZone, where the codes were read at no charge. Because he was away from home, we thought bringing the car to a Subaru dealership would give us a reliable assessment of what actually needed to be repaired. R.C. Lacy charged him $192.78 for the diagnostic visit and then presented him with $7,531.49 in recommended repairs. This included $2,494.49 for a valve body and transmission flush, $2,510.62 for a steering rack, over $1,000 for front and rear brakes, and $883.35 for tires. Fortunately, we did not authorize the work. My son brought the car home and I took it to our local mechanic. The transmission problem is being addressed with a valve body replacement for approximately $750 installed, rather than nearly $2,500. The brake work is also costing substantially less, and our mechanic found no problem with the steering that would justify the $2,510 steering-rack replacement. The tire price was roughly comparable. What bothers me most is that my son went there because he was traveling and needed professional guidance about whether his Subaru was safe and what actually needed repair. Instead, he paid nearly $200 for an evaluation that resulted in more than $7,500 in recommended work. We subsequently had the necessary repairs handled at home for a fraction of that amount. Dealership prices are understandably higher than independent shops, but this went far beyond the difference I would reasonably expect. Based on our experience, I would not return to R.C. Lacy for service.

  Brought my car in on the 3rd of September for what I thought was a simple power steering issue, Chris tells me that they have to run a diagnostic, but it's could be the entire power steering rack. They do the diagnostic and of course they said it was the entire steering rack and it would cost $4600 to fix and they would require a deposit of half before they would do it or even offer me a loaner. I opted to think about it and left the car there, I had a friend go and get it but the battery was dead. He jumped it and low and be my power steering was working. Come to find it it was never my power steering rack and totally my battery because my power steering is electronic..... Took it to my regular Ford Dealer Orchard Ford for the win and they replaced my battery as it was still under warranty and I went on my merry way. Moral of the story. Don't bring your car here. I want to know how they came up with the power steering rack being bad via a diagnostic when they didn't discover that it was a low voltage battery. They almost scammed me for $4600.
