  Very poor quality, service is horrible, workers are on their phones, hardly anything is stocked, bathrooms are clean surprisingly.

  Best price for gas on all my journeys! New day, New pain. I got gas here this morning and again pm, no receipt both times? I took a photo of the readings this morning. By the time I grabbed my phone my readings were gone. No speaker button and was not going to see the cashier so I started pushing buttons and my purchase magically appeared. Guess I have to find a new place that makes things easy. Bye Maverick.

  Maverick is a fascinating establishment because it has somehow mastered the difficult art of being exactly what a gas station should be. Not better. Not worse. Exactly. I stopped in expecting gasoline, snacks, and perhaps a brief existential crisis while staring at an entire wall dedicated to energy drinks. Maverick delivered all of these things with remarkable efficiency. The store was clean, the shelves were stocked, and the staff appeared to be operating under the radical philosophy that customers should be helped rather than treated as an inconvenience. This alone places the location several rungs above many of its competitors. What I appreciate most about Maverick is that it understands its role in society. It is not trying to be a five star restaurant. It is not trying to be a luxury destination. It is a place where road weary travelers can acquire caffeine, sugar, fuel, and questionable quantities of beef jerky before continuing their journey into the unknown. Everything worked. Everything was where it should be. Nothing caught fire. No strange wildlife emerged from behind the ice machine. In the modern world, this qualifies as a surprisingly successful experience. Would I stop here again? Absolutely. It accomplished its mission with such competence that I barely thought about it afterward, which may be the highest compliment a gas station can receive.
