    I’d rate it a zero if possible. My family and I flew into Orlando and rented one of their cars to drive to Univ Fla Gainesville to see my daughter graduate. We ordered the Sixt rental before we left. We were only there Fri-Sun morning. Gave us a similar suv because original one was rented to someone else. So on Fla Tpk about one hour into our drive the engine lite and emergency/ overheat lights came on. It said “Reduced Acceleration drive with care”. This went on for a little while and my wife called Sixt to let them know. The agent told her it’s safe to drive. Agent said once you get to destination maybe bring to service station. We said we can’t bring car to be fixed we have to attend Graduation can’t you switch the car with another? They said no just get it checked on your own. I never in my life heard car rental place do this. Then new emergency lights came on said “AC off due to high engine temp”. So we asked what if this vehicle stalls out on highway? Agent said we would have to get it towed and pay out of our pocket. Again, never heard this in my life. They argued on phone for while. Needless to say we pulled off highway few times to hopefully let vehicle cool down. We went back on highway and this continued until we arrived to our destination. They said they’re not sending another vehicle because too far so we’re stuck with the car or bring to repair station?!?!?! We were late to my daughter’s graduation from college and refused to use the vehicle all weekend and instead used uber. When we left for Orlando airport about 15mins into our drive it started again. But this time it said “Engine overheated Turn vehicle off”. So when I put my foot on accelerator it was dead. So my whole family panicked while I glided to the shoulder to not get into accident. I re-started the car a little while after and drove off nearest exit to service area. We called for uber for our 1.5 hour drive to airport and left the car there locked up. My wife called Sixt agent, she said sorry and we can deal with this when we arrive home. About 50 calls later they gave us a run around about refunding money and then said we can’t refund for uber because Sixt service dept tested vehicle and no issues with it. In other words we lied. So I’ve attached pictures of our instrument panel. My daughter was a nervous wreck throughout so she made sure to take pics. So our “lies” are attached. I’ll also be submitting this story on every social media acct I have and I’ve also reported them to the Better Business Bureau. The uber total came to $380

    I had a very disappointing experience at Sixt JFK late at night. The process was unclear, there were unexpected extra charges, and the customer service attitude was far from welcoming. As a Platinum member, I honestly expected a lot more respect and flexibility. On top of that, we were given a car we did not want at all. The next day, we went to Sixt Newark to exchange the vehicle, and the experience was completely different. The team there was incredibly kind, professional, and customer-oriented from the moment we walked in. They immediately apologized for what happened at JFK and handled everything quickly and smoothly. The entire rental process was explained clearly, and they made us feel genuinely valued as customers. Huge compliments to the Newark team for turning around an otherwise frustrating rental experience.

    Terrible experience at the SIXT Newark Airport (EWR) location. I called customer service 3 separate times before booking to confirm I could rent with a debit card since I do not have a credit card. I explained everything clearly and was told I would be fine with my debit card and documents. Based on that information, I booked through Priceline and paid about $180 for an Uber from Queens to Newark because the rental was cheaper there. Once I arrived, the staff suddenly told me I could not get the rental because my flight was leaving from JFK instead of Newark and because my rental dates supposedly had to exactly match my travel itinerary. None of this was disclosed beforehand. They then gave me a hard time about my refund, repeatedly saying Priceline had my money even though the funds were already taken from my account. After a long back-and-forth and me showing proof from my bank account, another employee finally realized SIXT did process the payment and issued the refund. What made this even worse is that I was only in town because my grandmother is in hospice and this may be her last Mother’s Day. I explained that and still received no help or empathy. Because of the misinformation and poor handling, I had to spend another $180 Uber back to Queens/JFK. Completely unacceptable experience, poor communication, and inconsistent policies. The JFK location treated me much better and was actually professional and helpful.

    Very disappointing experience. The desk representative refused to process my reservation because I used a shortened version of my name, even though I provided valid ID and all reservation details. This felt inconsistent and racist, shortened English names are usually accepted, but mine was not. No effort was made to verify properly or resolve the issue. Wasted time and poor customer service. Would not recommend this location.

    Avoid Sixt Rent a Car Newark Airport. I was charged for services I explicitly declined (liability coverage) and given a vehicle upgrade (BMW X5) without being told it was $50/day extra. I only noticed the charges after already being in the car. There was no manager available at the parking area, and I had my newborn already strapped in after a red-eye flight. I had to find security just to get someone to come out. When the manager finally arrived, he initially refused to fix it. After pushing, the pricing was eventually adjusted—but only after unnecessary stress. Even then, I still saw unclear extra charges despite having prepaid online, and I was too exhausted to keep arguing. My husband and I have always booked with SIXT, which makes this especially disappointing. While it was corrected in the end, the lack of transparency and difficulty getting help made this a very poor experience. Double-check every charge before leaving the counter.
