I got an estimate on my car. The estimate was fine, but i felt the service was cold and dry. The coworkers, at least that day, didn’t seem like they got along very well, which made the atmosphere a little tense and weird. Not to mention, this was my first ever crash, so I was pretty not excited to be there and was very nervous going alone. The gentleman came out, asked me to point out the damage, and when I did, I said “pretty big damage but hasn’t been too bad-“ and was interrupted by him saying “no that’s pretty bad.” I then laughed and continued by saying “no I know it’s pretty bad but it hasn’t been too bad to drive” to which he immediately responded with “yea that’s pretty bad. Car might be totaled.” Truthfully, the car might be totaled. But I know nothing about cars and it was my first ever crash. So this experience was less than comfortable for me. I will say, the job was done. The estimate was made. However, I work at a bank. And when someone runs into a scary situation with their finances and comes into the bank nervous about what could happen, not only is it my job to assess the situation and fix it, but i consider it an even bigger part of my job to give them comfort and reassurance. Sadly, in the first 5 minutes of me being there, I already wanted to leave. There was a gal that I believe had silver hair walking around helping a different customer and she seemed incredibly kind! I know not everyone has a comforting personality, but boy I wish I worked with her that day, even if the results weren’t what I wanted!
Not to mention, they are charging my insurance for holding my car… but they haven’t been holding my car 🥲. Car is still in my possession.
TL:DR 10 OUT IF 10 WOULD RECOMMEND!
Took my car to Gerber, as it was one of the options offered to me by the insurance of the person who did a decent number on my bumper. I'm sure I've vaguely heard of them in passing, but I had no idea at the time I picked them to do my repairs, that I'd made the best choice I could have! I cannot speak to their pricing, as my repairs were fully covered by the other party's insurance. However, I can speak to every other part of my experience with them (also, I'm a girl that knows very little about car repairs, and I feel like that matters. I can change a tire...in theory lol and I taught myself how to change my brake and plate lights this year. Thats the extent of my car knowledge). I'll leave the rest of my review in sections.
Customer Service 10/10
Gerber went above and beyond to make sure that by the time my vehicle was returned to me, I really had no serious questions. From receiving text updates throughout the entire process, to a few direct calls from Matt re: the progress of my repairs, Gerber was in constant contact with me for the entire time they had my vehicle. From my in person interactions, to phone calls, I was consistently encouraged to ask all the questions I could think of. Each question or concern was also met with a thoughtful, considerate, sometimes funny, but always respectful and professional response. I never once felt that I was being patronized or taken advantage of. The level of genuine communication that was offered to me by all the staff, but especially Matt, made me feel like a valued regular customer, and not just an insurance claim referral. My car was also returned to me cleaner than it had been when I dropped it off (both interior and exterior). This to me definitely counts as customer service, as I had no expectation that any cleaning would be included in the scope of the work (outside of what would have been necessary to repair my bumper). Short of doing a full detail, my interior was VERY well vacuumed, all the surfaces were clearly wiped down, and my exterior - including my tires - had been given a good clean. I could tell that all of my personal items that hadn't been neatly placed together in a box, were gently removed, and put back, so they could clean the inside of my car. I'm fairly certain they would've cleaned my trunk too, had it not been such a disaster! From communication, to their work/materials standard, they do the things that you never see in just the repair itself, but make all the difference. Truly top notch, above average service in every way!
Actual Work/Quality of Repairs 10/10
I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of my repairs thus far (I've only had my car back for about a week, but so far so good)! From having a standard of quality that had them reject and return materials they felt to be subpar to complete the repairs to their standard, on two occasions. To taking the extra step of making sure my car came back to me cleaner than they recieved it (interior and exterior). I really cannot complain at all. They exceeded my expectations, or rather what other repair shops have trained me to expect, by simply having an above average standard of excellence for themselves. When a shop's baseline is 'Excellence', that's the kind of guarantee, and comfort as a consumer (not knowing much of anything about car repairs) that you really can't pay for.
Repair Process Communication 10/10
I was kept informed both via text, and direct phone calls from the shop during EVERY step of the repair process.
Repair Timeline 9.9/10
They originally thought it would take roughly 7 business days to recieve the parts they needed, and then complete the repairs. Even after having to send parts back twice, they still finished a day earlier than the original estimate!
Overall Recommendation? YES!
Gerber is now not only at the top of the list for my own repairs. They are solidly the #1 place I'd recommend to anyone needing similar work, or any other repairs I know Gerber handles. Can't speak highly enough about the work, or the people!
