  Valvoline Instant Oil Change in Grand Forks charged me for one of the most predatory upsells I’ve ever experienced. I went in for a routine service, and the technician immediately insisted I “needed” a full radiator flush because my coolant was “really low.” That claim was suspicious from the start — my vehicle had a new OEM water pump installed less than nine months ago at an authorized Ford dealership, and the coolant was replaced at that time. Despite that, they pushed a $169.99 radiator flush and drained pristine, nine‑month‑old Ford OEM coolant, replacing it with their universal/multi‑vehicle coolant — a product Ford explicitly states it does not approve. Using an unapproved coolant can jeopardize my dealership repair warranty, and they never disclosed that risk. This wasn’t just an unnecessary service. It was a predatory, warranty‑risking upsell that cost me money and potentially created future problems. I will not be returning, and I strongly urge others to be cautious about the aggressive upselling at this location.

  We pulled in just before closing. A Valvoline in Bismarck had put the wrong oil in my Volkswagen and this location replaced it. They were super busy, but the management runs a tight ship and the staff was so nice even though it was clear they were tired and had a long day. I will be doing all of my oil changes here from now on. It was worth the wait just to be treated so well.

  I received a coupon for up to 35% discount. I figured with that discount I would get more done. I had my transfer gear oil changed. It took over 45 minutes. I was going to change my air filters. You did not have either one available. Asked to present my coupon. It changed from 35% to up to 20 %. I felt cheated,and lured in to doing more. I was thinking my bill would be around $140.00 with the discount. I paid $220.00 there a bouts. Definitely not a trust enhanced visit.

  The Valvoline on 38th in Grand Forks, ND was outstanding! The employees were extremely helpful and kind. Not only did they change my oil but also provided me with a car inspection making sure my filters were clear, and lights were working, and tires' pressures were at the recommended level. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. I will recommend Valvoline to all my family and friends!

  Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at this Valvoline location. My friend and I came for oil changes in my Nissan Altima and his Audi Q7. While waiting, we were speaking privately to each other in a mixture of Ukrainian and Russian. Since it was over 86°F (30°C) outside, we sat in my car with the air conditioning running. After my friend’s Audi entered the service bay, a manager ordered him to return to his own vehicle and remain inside, even though the car was hot and not running. A few minutes later, the same manager approached me and accused me of making comments about the female employees. English is not my first language, so I asked him to repeat and explain what he believed I had said. This was especially confusing because my friend and I had not been speaking English. The manager refused to explain, spoke to me rudely, denied service to my Nissan, and told me to leave. I repeatedly asked what specific comment he thought he had heard, but he would not answer. My friend did not argue because the employees had already drained the oil from his Audi, and he was worried they might not finish the service. We later went to Jiffy Lube for my Nissan and his other vehicle, where we received respectful and professional service. This is extremely disappointing because I had been a loyal customer here for almost three years and regularly recommended this location. I even had my oil changed here on June 6, 2026, and the previous employees were friendly and professional. Sadly, after this experience, I will no longer return to or recommend this location. Customers should not be treated rudely or denied service because an employee misunderstands a private conversation in a language they do not speak.
