I was quoted a little over $1,000 for a repair on my car. I took one of my days off from work to get there a couple hours before noon as I was told it would take some time to do the repair. When they were done 4 hours later the bill was $1,900...
Turns out they forgot to put a little over $800 worth of parts on the quote. Funny that it was mentioned they had noticed that mistake beforehand and thought it was weird. It would have been nice to know they noticed that BEFORE doing the work and charging me, not after. But mistakes happen, that I could understand to a degree.
What sits less right with me is that I watched my vehicle sit there for a whole hour, untouched, before they took it in. Then they closed for an hour for lunch. I was at the shop for just a hair over 4 hours and was charged 4 hours of labor at $199 an hour.
But wait... If my car sat untouched for a whole hour (it was in my vision the entire time as I was in the lobby, this length of time is not an assumption or exaggeration), and if they went on an hour lunch, really only 2 of those hours were accurate. So ~$400 of my money went up in smoke for no good reason on top of the quote almost doubling.
Cool.
Super sad, actually. I had heard good things from people about this place, but like I said that doesn't sit right with me. If something had come up that was unexpected, stuff happens I get the price going up for additional parts and labor.
But they noticed their +$800 parts mess up before starting work and didn't inform me, and then charged me for twice the time it took?? And in reading other comments, they apparently charge $199 an hour for labor when their warranty doesn't apply. If that's true, I was not informed of that which would have been real nice knowing ahead of time that I have no warranty on the repair.
So if you like quotes almost doubling, paying $199 an hour for parking, and paying $199 for other peoples lunch time, I'd highly recommend. I just hope their quality of work is decent, seeing as I'll be traveling across the state multiple times in the near future.

Special thanks to Ryan and the team! They fixed my car and made it run like brand new after Ford dealership attempted to break it down for the purpose of getting me to sell! Ryan was amazing when listening to my concerns and making sure they were addressed as soon as possible! I will forever be grateful!

Very thorough in explaining what is happening with your vehicle in a way that easy to understand. Let me know about things that could become future issues but not as a ploy to get unnecessary work done. Very impressed
Craig and the boys at Braaten's run a truly professional business. With little time available, I left them a message after hours and they returned my call FIRST thing in the morning. 3 other shops did not call back until mid-day if at all. I'm no car expert, but they treated me like an adult and were both patient and friendly as I explained my problem. Every question I had was answered plainly and with detail, and not once did they try to sell me something I didn't need. They quoted an accurate cost and completed work inside of a couple hours. My car runs perfectly again and I left happy to have done business with a hard-working, honest, local company! Braaten's is by far the best auto shop I've visited, and they will have my exclusive business as long as I'm in Grand Forks. Well done, guys!
