I haven’t rented a vehicle in years, so I was really happy with my experience with Alamo at the RDU International Airport. The customer service from beginning to end was exceptional – professional, courteous, friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. Even the van drives to Alamo and back to the airport terminal were enjoyable-personable and friendly drivers. Customer service is EVERYTHING to me. It was a very simple and quick process to rent the vehicle, even though I had completed the process the night before. I will definitely go with Alamo again with my future rentals. VERY pleased with my experience.😎

Alamo Rental Car is usually 5 star, but was surprised when traveling into Raleigh Durham International airport, did not offer skip the counter. It offers accelarated check in, however on the day I arrived to pick up the vehicle, there was a line that extended outside the Alamo counter of about 65 people waiting to pick up cars. The representatives worked as hard as possible to get through the line jam but my wait approached to just as much as my flight time. Skip the counter needs to be introduced at this location to alleviate these type of situations. Once I reached the counter, the rep who was handling multiple customers at once, took minutes to get in the vehicle and go.

Do not use Alamo at RDU. We were given an SUV that was wrecked. Luckily, we noticed before we left. No one had us do a vehicle check and sign-off on the body. We did not want to drive the wrecked car, but we were not given a choice, and we already had it loaded and a disabled person situated in the car before we found out. Then when we returned it, they quizzed us on the damage, and we had taken pictures, and at least the worker at the exit made note when we told her. It was a LOT of money to drive around a wrecked car, and it was embarrassing since we were there to visit family and attend various functions. The car was also very dirty inside, and they had like an ID number with window paint written in large numbers on the side of the front window. Tacky. No discount or anything. At least someone came and found us on the transfer bus to the airport to let us know that we would not be charged for the damage because the exit attendant had made note of it. Also, Alamo, if you are giving hybrid vehicles to people, you might want to let people know and give some direction about them in case people are unfamiliar. Big disappointment. We paid extra for a better brand instead of the discount/budget rentals because we saw reviews of issues. Paying more is no better.

Arriving near closing time, because of a delayed flight, there was only a single agent available to handle several customers. The car started right up and we headed to our hotel. After arriving at our hotel we realized we had not been given a fob for the car. We searched the car thoroughly to find it without success. So we were unable to lock the car. We found a card in the glovebox with a 24 hour road side assistance number. We called that, but they were unable to help and suggested we leave the car unlocked in a safe place overnight. The next morning we searched again for the fob and found it under the passenger side seat. The car itself was fine and the people at check in, when we reported this problem, were very helpful and considerate. It also would have been nice to have a users manual in the car.

I had a very disappointing experience with Alamo Rent A Car, and it’s honestly one of the worst customer service encounters I’ve had in years. I’ve been an Alamo Insider member for over 15 years, so I’m very familiar with how their services are supposed to work. That’s what made this experience even more frustrating and unacceptable. I had a confirmed reservation, and while I was literally standing at the counter, the staff canceled it right in front of me with no real attempt to assist or offer a solution. The female manager on duty was especially rude and dismissive. Instead of trying to help, she had an attitude that made it seem like my situation was an inconvenience to her. There was no empathy, no effort to problem-solve, just a flat refusal to assist. I was told they would not honor a one-way rental, which was never disclosed anywhere during the booking process on their website. Had that been clearly communicated upfront, I would have made alternate arrangements. Canceling a customer’s reservation on the spot due to a policy that was never transparently shared is extremely unprofessional. What stood out most was the complete lack of customer care. As a long-time loyal customer, I expected at the very least a respectful interaction and some effort to find a workaround. Instead, I was left stranded and forced to scramble for other transportation at the last minute. This experience has seriously shaken my trust in Alamo. If this is how loyal customers are treated, I can only imagine what new customers might face. I would strongly caution others to double-check policies and be prepared for inconsistencies between what is advertised and what is actually honored at this location. Overall, a frustrating, disappointing, and completely avoidable situation that reflects very poorly on both the staff and management at this branch.
