  We dropped our truck off for a diagnostic of the new transmission we paid you $5k for last year. After 6 phone calls with no return phone calls, a guy named Dan that said he was the DM called me back. He said that it needed a new motor and he would look into and call me back. He did! He said that they would locate a motor and it would be around $13,500. I told him I was going to have another guy quote it and he quickly told me that he had money built into it and that it would more than likely be less he just wanted to make sure he was covered. He said that I would receive a call as soon as they found one from Robert. Call never came. I called twice more with no response. I called a third time and Robert said he thinks they found one and would order and have in 4-5 days and would send me the real cost. He said once he received the motor he would jump right on it and have it done in 2 days. I told him dan told me 2 weeks. He said he would push it through and get it done for me faster. Well, without surprise, Robert never called. In the following 2 weeks I called twice and Anthony said he would have Robert call me. That call never came. We are into 2 months at this point. Shockingly I get a call from Robert that the motor has been installed and that they are just breaking it in and it would be ready the next day. I was on a trip and came the following Tuesday. Robert greeted me with it was a little more for some extra parts and told me the new total was approximately $14,600. I told him I was writing a check but our attorney would be suing them. Without a skip of a beat, he quickly says that never mind the price is now miraculously $13,600 and some change. I told him that I was never sent a proposal that he promised. He said he did. I asked him to show me the signed proposal and he said ok. He played around on his computer and said "Oh, actually we never did send you anything". I told him I know. I also told him that the picture on your wall behind you states that anything over $350 requires it and that a customer has the right to decline the service. Evidently that doesn't apply to all customers. Unfortunately Robert does not know the legal requirements Under the North Carolina Motor Vehicle Repair Act (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 20-354.3). He should learn them along with some customer service. How many customers of Cottmons do they do this to? Everyone probably just sucks it up and pays. There are laws against this and we plan on filing a complaint with the NCDPOR. I paid my bill because it is a work truck and we had already been without it for months. This business practice is crooked and the reason mechanics have a bad rap and can't be trusted. There are plenty of good ones out there that play by the rules and do the right thing. Unfortunately this Cottmons management does not. I wonder what the Founder of Cottmons would think if he saw this kind of practice and ethics occurring at the business he built. It's a shame and people that do business here should be alarmed.

  We took our 2013 Genesis to be checked out as we believed we were having transmission problems. The technician was able to check out our car within 24 hours and let us know that we indeed had a transmission problem. We were going to have to replace what we had. They were able to find a used one and explain the price. Very well explained. All the people we worked with were informative & professional.

  I'm grateful to have taken our Kia Sorento to this Cottman Transmission. Rob worked hard to find a used rear differential. When we picked up our vehicle I noticed that there was still a grinding noise when I coasted. I told Rob and he asked me to let him know if nothing changed in 2-3 days. Well, it didn't change and both Rob and Anthony worked hard to get a replacement through the warranty and correct the problem with no extra changes. Now are car drives quieter than ever! Yes, humans and car parts can make mistakes, but I have to say that I'm impressed with the intergrity that this business does its work! I would highly recommend them to anyone and know that they will be people of their word and make sure that each problem is addressed and that promises are kept. Thank you guys for proving that high quality work with integrity can still be done these days!

  I’m writing this review because I’m extremely disappointed with the service I received from Cottman Transmission. I originally took my truck there and told Rob that I needed whatever was wrong with the vehicle fixed because I needed my vehicle back and needed it to be reliable. Rob told me no problem, and I trusted them to do the job. After getting my truck back, I continued having problems. I had to bring it back because the transmission would not go into third gear. They worked on it and supposedly fixed that issue. I then had to bring it back again because the transmission was leaking. I was charged for the repair, and I was told the leak had been fixed. It has not even been two days, and I crawled underneath my vehicle and found that the transmission is still leaking badly. At this point, I have to question what work was actually performed because I have continued having transmission problems since the day I got the vehicle back. My experience has been that everything sounds good when Rob explains things over the phone, but the actual results have not matched what I was told. My vehicle has been in their shop multiple times, and on multiple occasions I have been disappointed with the results. I have now spent well over $3,500 on this truck, and the transmission still is not properly fixed. How transmission company can’t fix transmissions. That is extremely frustrating, especially when you take your vehicle to a transmission shop expecting them to diagnose and repair the transmission correctly. I would not recommend Cottman Transmission based on my experience. If you choose to use them, I strongly recommend getting a second, third, fourth, or even fifth opinion and checking their work afterward. I trusted them to fix my vehicle, and instead I have continued dealing with problems and have been put in a position where I’m worried about being stranded on the side of the road. I hate having to leave a review like this, but I’m highly disappointed with the service I received. I paid for repairs because I needed a dependable vehicle, and I still don’t have one. I hope the company takes this seriously and addresses the situation properly.
