We frequently rent cars and have run into a few issues, but this Alamo ranks up there in top 2 worst experiences. The rest of the rental car counters were empty, while Alamo had a nearly 2 hour wait for a car. The line stretched across the hallway and took forever for the 2 employees to work through. Once at the counter, as suspected by all the people sitting around, I was told that there was no vehicle available. I was told there was no estimate in how long it would take to get a car. I pressed for an estimate and was reluctantly told about 20 mins. Over an hour later, I received a car. The two hours was the wait in line and the wait for the car. The car was fine, but the service was terrible. No updates, no transparency.
There were people waiting with an infant, a family that had two elderly folks in wheelchairs etc. Often, there was only one clerk helping folks and the other was at the desk, but not helping customers. The nearby bathroom, while not a direct reflection of Alamo, was disgusting. No good places to charge a phone, no food nearby and no way to contact you if you walked away from the area. I do not recommend Alamo at this location. Conversely, when I returned the car in Roanoke, she asked me how things went. I told her everything was fine but the wait for the car. Before the end of the day, a supervisor from the Roanoke location emailed me. I emailed back explaining it was a different pickup location, and never heard anything more. While frustrated it was dropped like that, I was impressed by the quick contact from the ROA Alamo manager, on a weekend!
Dear Alamo, please don't waste your time sending the canned response that you have sent to countless others who had no car available when they arrived! Hopefully people will choose a different company when flying into Greensboro!
