I am writing to formally express my profound disappointment with my recent experience at this Valvoline location. As a lifetime Valvoline customer, I have never encountered such a disastrous, embarrassing, and disrespectful level of service. What should have been a routine oil change turned into a prolonged, humiliating ordeal in the sweltering summer heat, ultimately requiring police intervention.
The blatant disrespect began with the maintenance itself. The technicians pulled my premium, reusable air filter to inspect it. When I asked them to clear the minor debris from it, the Assistant Manager dismissively told me, "We don't have anything to blow this out with." It was incredibly apparent that because they could not upsell me a new filter, they were unwilling to provide even the most basic courtesy. I was left sitting in my hot car, cleaning my own filter with a towel.
To make matters worse, despite charging a premium price, the technicians failed to properly screw the air filter housing back together before attempting to send me on my way. I had to personally bring this to the manager's attention. When we popped the hood, he saw the glaring error for himself, had to go behind his own technicians to properly seal it, and apologized. I told him directly: if your staff is willing to let a customer drive away with an unsealed air filter, what other critical steps did they miss? It completely destroyed my trust in the mechanical work performed.
However, the poor mechanical service pales in comparison to the atrocious billing practices and hostility I experienced at checkout. The total came to $144.46, and I paid using my American Express card. The transaction successfully posted to my Amex app, yet the staff aggressively argued that the payment "didn't go through" and demanded that I pay a second time.
When I reasonably requested printed documentation showing a void, cancellation, or refund for the initial charge before running my card again, they flatly refused. The staff told me that "corporate doesn't talk to customers" and claimed their system couldn't print any proof of a failed transaction. They fully expected me to accept a double charge based purely on their word of mouth, with zero paper trail.
The staff’s refusal to provide documentation was so combative, and the situation became so protracted, that I was forced to call the police just to mediate a standard retail transaction. Sitting in the intense summer heat, arguing with hostile employees, and waiting for law enforcement to arrive was deeply embarrassing and completely unacceptable. Finally, under police supervision, I allowed the second charge. The staff was forced to hand-write a receipt that included their physical names and an acknowledgment of the transaction error.
For a company that charges upwards of $100 for an oil change, the lack of professionalism, mechanical competence, and basic customer respect is astounding. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), as well as escalating this to corporate.
Valvoline has permanently lost a lifetime customer today. I strongly advise anyone to avoid this location unless you want your vehicle improperly reassembled and to be verbally fought with over unverified double charges.
