  Update: A week after Penske’s response below, I still have yet to receive any sort of outreach. No call. No email Some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I rented a 26-foot truck for a cross-country move and ordered 48 furniture blankets. During the reservation process, I stressed how important they were and was guaranteed three separate times that they would be available. When I arrived, a rep named Jack told me they were completely out. I asked why no one had contacted me beforehand and whether he could check another Penske location. Instead of apologizing or trying to help, he rolled his eyes, told me all he could do was refund me, and shrugged when I asked again if there was anything else he could do, stressing how vital they were since I was moving that day and had no time to search for others. He made me feel like I was inconveniencing him for asking Penske to fix a problem they created. Another employee eventually pulled me aside and took over. Outside, she told me verbatim, “I’m sorry about him. He can be very crabby. I don’t know what the f*** his problem is.” I asked to have a supervisor call me and was assured one would. That call never came. Of more concern was the truck itself. The driver’s-side seatbelt was loose and tangled. I pointed it out before leaving and was told I’d be fine. When my movers opened the back to load the truck, they discovered that both handles on the ramp had been snapped off before I rented it. I also showed them the seatbelt, and they couldn’t believe the truck had been cleared to drive. So, if good customer service, safe equipment, and looking out for the well-being of customers aren’t important to you, by all means rent from Penske. I’ll be choosing U-Haul next time. I’ve noticed Penske responds to reviews, so I’m more than happy to update this review if they reach out and make it right. If you don’t see an update, that means nothing was done. And to be clear, I do not want a generic 1-800 number response. I want the actual callback I was already promised and never received.

  Things don’t go perfectly in business. How I rate companies is more about what do they try to do when things don’t go well? I tried to find a truck online at around 11 PM on a Friday night. This is in the heat of summer where moving trucks are pretty much fully rented out everywhere. I felt pretty lucky to find one with Penske. Well, turns out the online platform wasn’t accurate and the truck I’d requested was not available. I heard from Jack at the Earth city location at 7:51 AM the next day! He let me know well in advance of my pick up time that he was sorry but it actually was not available. Honestly, that is good enough service to me for a five star review. That being said, he didn’t just let me know it wasn’t available, he came ready with alternative options for me to get a truck. This may seem simple, but in a world where people can get pretty apathetic about customer service I was very impressed by it. I’m just a random customer. He didn’t need to go above and beyond. But he did. Five stars.

  Horrible customer service !! Been using Penske for 15 years and never been spoke to like this by the first rep that kept speaking over me then the manager that refused to do his job .. then had the odacity to act like they are so busy that they don’t need my business ? This is what is wrong with America today. Don’t come to work if you don’t feel like doing your job ! .. what you think cause it’s Saturday things are less important? lol he tried telling me it’s Saturday and he’s the only one there and starting making excuses ..
