ADAS Recalibration
Modern vehicles are packed with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—things like automatic braking, blind-spot mirrors, and lane-centering. These systems "see" using cameras and radar. If those sensors are moved even a tiny bit, they can become "cross-eyed," which means they won't react correctly when you need them most.
Why does it need to be done?
Imagine you are pointing a laser pointer at a wall 50 feet away. If your hand moves just a fraction of an inch, the red dot on the distant wall jumps several feet.
The same thing happens to your car. If a camera is tilted by just 1∘, it might "see" a car in the lane next to you and think it's a hazard directly in your path.
When do you need a re-calibration?
It’s a common misconception that you only need this after a big wreck. In reality, you need it after:
- Windshield Replacement: Most safety cameras are glued to the inside of your windshield.
- Wheel Alignments: If the wheels change direction, the sensors need to be told where "straight ahead" is now.
- Suspension Work: If the car sits higher or lower, the cameras see the ground differently.
-Sensor Replacement: A new "eye" needs to be told how to look at the world.
How the Pros Fix It
There are two ways technicians "teach" the car how to see again:
1. Static Recalibration (The "Clinic" Method)
This happens inside a shop. The car is parked in front of specific "targets" (patterns that look like QR codes or checkerboards). A computer tells the car, "That pattern is exactly 2 meters away and centered," and the car adjusts its internal settings to match.
2. Dynamic Recalibration (The "Road Test" Method)
The technician plugs a tablet into your car and drives it on a road with clear lane markings. The car "learns" by watching actual traffic and road lines in real-time until the computer confirms it is calibrated.
Auto Glass Repair
Fix Auto Glass provides expert-level restoration for chipped and cracked windshields, focusing on safety, speed, and long-term durability. Our service is designed to be a "first line of defense" for your vehicle, saving you the time and expense of a full glass replacement.
• Precision Resin Technology: We use high-quality, clear adhesive resins that are injected under pressure to fill every micro-crack. Once cured with UV light, the resin restores the structural strength of the glass and prevents the damage from spreading.
• Rapid Repair Times: Most chip repairs are completed in 30 minutes or less, allowing you to get back on the road almost immediately.
• Cost-Efficiency: By repairing a chip before it "spiders" into a large crack, Fix Auto Glass helps you avoid the high cost of a total windshield replacement.
• Mobile Convenience: We offer mobile service units that can come to your home or office, meaning your safety doesn't have to wait for a gap in your schedule.
• Insurance Simplified: They work directly with most major insurance providers, often helping customers get repairs done for zero out-of-pocket cost (depending on your glass coverage).
Why Choose Fix Auto Glass?
• Safety First: A repaired windshield maintains its role in the vehicle's structural integrity, which is vital for airbag deployment and roof support.
• Clarity Restored: Our advanced polishing techniques minimize the appearance of the original blemish, restoring up to 90–95% optical clarity.
• Lifetime Peace of Mind: Many repairs are backed by a satisfaction guarantee to ensure the resin stays bonded for the life of the glass.
Not sure if your windshield needs a repair or a replace? Use the quarter rule!
If the damage is smaller than a quarter, it can usually be repaired. If it's larger, or if the crack is directly in the driver’s line of sight, a full replacement is typically required for safety.
Auto Glass Replacement
When a windshield is too damaged to be repaired—usually if a crack is longer than a dollar bill or located directly in the driver’s line of sight—Fix Auto Glass provides a seamless, professional Auto Glass Replacement service.
We don't just "swap glass"; we restore your vehicle’s structural integrity using factory-grade materials and precision techniques.
• OEM-Quality Glass: Fix Auto Glass uses glass that meets or exceeds Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards. This ensures the glass fits perfectly, matches the original tint, and maintains the same acoustic (noise-reducing) properties as your factory windshield.
• Advanced Adhesive Systems: We use high-performance polyurethanes with fast "drive-away times." This means the bond reaches safety standards quickly, so you aren't stuck waiting hours before you can drive.
• Precision Installation: Our technicians are trained to remove the old glass without scratching the vehicle’s "pinch weld" (the metal frame), preventing future rust or leaks that are common with DIY or low-quality installs.
• Safety Integration: Since modern windshields are a core part of your car’s safety—supporting the roof in a rollover and acting as a backstop for airbags—Fix Auto Glass ensures every seal is airtight and structurally sound.
• Mobile & In-Shop Options: Whether you need the controlled environment of their shop or the convenience of your own driveway, they bring the tools and expertise to you.
The Critical Next Step: ADAS Recalibration
Because most modern cars have safety cameras (for lane assist and braking) mounted to the windshield, Fix Auto Glass ensures these "eyes" are recalibrated immediately after the glass is replaced. This guarantees your safety tech works exactly as the manufacturer intended.
Mobile Service
Fix Auto Glass understands that a cracked windshield doesn't wait for a convenient time to happen. Our Mobile Auto Glass Repair Service is designed to bring a fully equipped shop directly to your driveway, office parking lot, or wherever you’re stranded.
It’s the ultimate "no-interruptions" solution for busy drivers who need safety without the waiting room.
• Ultimate Convenience: Whether you’re at work, at home, or grabbing coffee, Fix Auto Glass technicians perform the repair on-site. You don’t have to fight traffic or arrange a ride to a repair shop.
• Rapid Response Times: Because a small chip can become a massive crack with one temperature change, our mobile teams prioritize quick dispatch to "freeze" the damage before it requires a full (and more expensive) replacement.
• Weather-Ready Repairs: Our technicians use specialized "tents" or hoods to protect the repair area from sun and moisture, ensuring the resin bonds perfectly even if the weather isn't cooperating.
• Touchless Service Options: You can opt for a completely contactless experience. We can coordinate via phone, perform the repair while you're inside, and send your receipt and warranty info digitally.

The staff here was extremely helpful and courteous. I had a special request for our Jeep windshield and they made my husband's day. They located a windshield with the infamous "Willy" logo. Thanks Joe, we love it! I would highly recommend Steele Auto, Monticello, for your auto glass replacement.

I don't trust people, but I trust them. I had a small no fault accident in my work Truck. It took me a month to even find time to deal with it because it was my work vehicle. Steeles was busy and said that they could do it in about a week and a half. I told them that I had the next 3 days off and it would help me out immensely if they could find a way to do it in the next three days. They said, reluctantly, thay could. When I brought my work Truck in the next morning, John V drove me home in his own vehicle. About a 20 minute drive.
These guys did the work in the time they promised and, I felt, went out of their way for me. I appreciate the professional and carrying conduct and terrific work they did. I highly recommend these guys!!! Way to go guys!

I could not be more pleased with my relationship with Steele's. They have repaired several of my vehicles and done a wonderful job. I'm known to be rather fussy and couldn't be more satisfied! They treat you like you're one of the family and are always willing to accomodate wherever they can to make your experience a good one. They return your vehicle clean and like new again! Good job Steele's. I would recommend you to anyone!
Frequently Asked Questions About Fix Auto Glass Minnesota
Will you work with my insurance company to make the replacement?
Yes, we will conduct a three-way phone call with you and your insurance agent to get your claim covered and provide a stress-free experience.
How long will my auto glass replacement take?
Windshield or car window replacement usually takes one hour, but proper curing may take an additional one to two hours, during which you should not drive your vehicle.
What is Safe Drive-Away Time and why is it important?
Safe Drive-Away Time (SDAT) is the minimum time required for the structural adhesive holding your windshield in place to dry. Driving before the windshield is fully cured can cause it to shift while driving, compromising your safety.
Can my windshield be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?
Shorter cracks and chips smaller than a quarter can usually be repaired, as long as they don’t obstruct the driver’s vision or penetrate both layers of the laminated windshield.
Can my side or rear windows just be repaired?
Side and rear car windows typically can’t be repaired because of their tempered glass construction, which is designed to shatter upon impact to protect the vehicle’s occupants. We can replace them, however.
Will you work with my insurance company to make the repair?
Yes, we will conduct a three-way phone call with you and your insurance agent to get your claim covered and provide a stress-free experience. If you carry comprehensive auto insurance, most insurance providers will cover the cost of a windshield repair 100% with no deductible.
How long will my windshield repair take?
Windshield repairs may take 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the type of damage. Most repairs can be completed in 30 minutes or less.
Can my side or rear windows be repaired?
Side and rear car windows typically can’t be repaired because of their tempered glass construction, which is designed to shatter upon impact to protect the vehicle’s occupants. We can replace them, however.
Will the chip or crack completely disappear after it is repaired?
No, a windshield repair is not a cosmetic fix. Its purpose is to restore the structural integrity of the glass and prevent the damage from spreading. While the clarity may be improved, you will probably still see an outline or impact.
Where can you perform mobile auto glass services?
We can repair or replace your glass at almost any location that provides a safe working environment. The most common locations include your home driveway, an apartment parking lot, or your workplace parking garage. We just need permission to work on the property, a relatively level surface, and about five feet of clearance around the vehicle.
Is there an extra fee for mobile service?
No, our mobile service costs the same as an in-shop appointment. You receive the same certified technicians and high-quality glass for exactly the same price.
What happens if it rains, snows, or is extremely cold on the day of my appointment?
Glass work requires dry conditions and specific temperature ranges to cure correctly. If the weather turns rainy or the temperature dips below 35 degrees Fahrenheit and you do not have a sufficient covered work area, we will contact you to reschedule your appointment or pivot to an in-shop appointment.
Do I need to be present for the entire mobile appointment?
No, you only need to be there for the very beginning and end of the service. To start, we’ll need you to unlock the vehicle and hand over the keys. When we’re done, we’ll contact you to return the keys and handle final paperwork.
Can you calibrate my ADAS during a mobile service?
In most cases, yes! Our technicians come prepared with specialized diagnostics tools for dynamic ADAS calibrations. If your vehicle re quires static calibration, we will notify you to schedule the work in our collision center.
