⭐ 1 STAR — Some of the Rudest Employees I Have Ever Encountered
I have never experienced such unnecessarily rude and unprofessional customer service at an AutoZone. The way these employees handled a simple used-oil recycling request was absolutely ridiculous.
I CALLED AHEAD before making the trip specifically to confirm that I could bring in my used motor oil. I wanted to avoid any confusion and make sure everything was within their guidelines. Despite taking the time to do that, the moment I walked into the store, I was met with attitude, complaints, and an absurd amount of hostility.
I brought two five-gallon buckets: one full and the other barely a quarter full. The total amount of oil I had was less than 20 quarts. I wasn't bringing contaminated oil or some unreasonable industrial quantity. I was bringing used motor oil to a business that accepts used oil for recycling.
At first, the employees didn't want to take the oil at all. I had to persist and explain that I had less than 20 quarts and question how their collection tank could possibly be too full to accommodate it. They even called someone in the back to check the tank, and that person explicitly confirmed that it was practically empty.
Let that sink in. The collection tank was reportedly nearly empty, I had less than 20 quarts of oil, and I had called ahead to confirm everything — yet I was still met with resistance and an attitude that was completely unnecessary.
After going back and forth with them, they finally accepted the full five-gallon bucket but refused the other bucket, which was barely a quarter full. If there was a legitimate restriction preventing them from accepting the remaining oil, they could have explained it like normal, professional adults. Instead, the entire interaction was filled with rude comments and an antagonistic attitude.
And to be clear, my frustration isn't simply that they refused part of my oil. Businesses can have policies and limitations. My issue is that I made the effort to call ahead, brought what I understood to be a reasonable amount, and still had to stand there defending myself while employees made an unnecessarily unpleasant situation out of something so straightforward.
What exactly was the point of calling ahead if I was going to be treated this way regardless?
The worst part is how casually these employees seemed to think it was acceptable to speak to a customer. Customers were constantly coming in and out of the store, and I can only imagine what impression this kind of behavior leaves on people who witness it.
There is a difference between enforcing a policy and being downright disrespectful. These employees apparently struggled with that distinction. You can tell a customer no without being rude. You can explain a limitation without making snide comments. And you can do your job without making someone regret ever walking through your door.
I went out of my way to verify the requirements in advance, remained persistent when they initially refused service, and ultimately managed to recycle only the full bucket. The experience was far more aggravating than it ever should have been.
Management seriously needs to address the customer service at this location. Knowing how to handle used oil is one thing. Knowing how to treat customers with basic respect is another.
One star. I came in to recycle used oil, not to argue with employees.

I called because I needed a new battery for my car as I needed to know how much it costed and someone answered said thanks for calling autozone! I apologized for calling so early but as I was going to ask how much it was the lady hung up on me. I called back 4 different times she said its busy and that’s why she hung up??? Excuse me you could’ve said Holdon and I would’ve! But instead you hang up and right in the nic of time my dad just got to the autozone and guess what it’s not busy ! So I told my dad it’s alright they want to treat a paying customer like that before I could even come there and come pay! Now I’d rather go to the oreilys that had great customer service and didn’t hang up on me and then laugh when I called back to tell me that they’re busy! Good bye!

Worst place! Got sent from 44th st store, told 28th st store has the tool in stock. Go to this store, get helped by a kid who is clueless! I wanted to verify that the loaner tool and the part I was getting were going to work together and had some questions. All I got was IDK responses. Then I was told that the tool was at another 28 st location, attempted to clarify what the address was and she wasn’t able to give it to me.
