- MBMike B5 days ago1.0There was no rental truck available at the designated location even though I had confirmed a reservation over a week in advance. I did receive a phone call from the Penske North Detroit office advising that the rental had not been returned and that the renter was unresponsive. During the call the Penske agent said “good news” and that the rental vehicle had been returned. This was not the case. When I arrived the Home Depot rental center advised that there were no 16’ Penske trucks available and that they only had a 26’ rental. This was not suitable to my needs. I rented a Home Depot 12’ truck which worked fine. When I returned the Home Depot rental I noted that there were several Penske trucks in the lot. I found out that the the missing truck (my truck) had been returned 45 minutes after my 9:00 AM rental period. My recommendation is that Penske charge a significant ($500 or greater) fee for late rental returns. Had I not been able to fill the gap with a solution provided by Home Depot, the arrangements for my move would have fallen apart and that just could not happen. I really wanted to try a Penske rental truck since they seem newer than other rental truck providers. The failure to ensure a reservation can be fulfilled until 30 minutes before the confirmed rental period is simply unacceptable. Do better!
