I brought my battery here for their advertised free recharge. They told me to come back in an hour, but when I returned, it was just sitting untouched on the counter, no apology given. The employee just told me to give them another 30 minutes. To be safe, I waited another 2 hours before returning. Finally I got my battery back but when I reinstalled it in my car, it was still completely dead. I know it’s a free service, but that is no excuse to waste someone's entire day and act like a job was done when it wasn't. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful of people's time. Avoid this location.

I have been a loyal customer of AutoZone for years, and this recent experience at the Livonia location on Middlebelt was extremely disappointing. When my check engine light came on, I went to this location for a diagnostic. The code returned was P0442, and the store representative recommended replacing the purge valve. I purchased a Duralast purge valve (PV479) from the store and had it installed. The check engine light did not turn off. I returned to the same location for another diagnostic, which showed the same code. This time, I was advised to replace my gas cap. I followed that recommendation as well, but the issue still was not resolved. Shortly after, my vehicle began having additional issues. It struggled to start after fueling, used more gas than usual, and felt sluggish while driving. I then took my vehicle to a mechanic, who performed a smoke test and confirmed that the purge valve I purchased from AutoZone was defective and stuck open, causing the issues. I was advised to replace it with a GM part, which resolved the problem. However, by that point, I had already spent over $500 between diagnostics, replacement parts, and a rental vehicle. I was also without my car for three days and missed three days of work. All of this stemmed from a defective $67 part that was recommended by the store. Before returning to the store, I called and was told to bring the part back with my receipt for a refund under warranty. I followed those instructions. However, when I arrived, I was told I was three days past the return window. The store manager, Aron, refused to make any exception despite my multiple visits for the same unresolved issue. His tone was dismissive and sarcastic, stating there was nothing he could do because “there’s an expiration date for a reason.” The interaction was loud and unprofessional, and other customers could clearly hear how I was being spoken to. What was most concerning was that when I explained I had followed the guidance given by the store, he responded by saying they are “not mechanics” and could not be responsible. While I understand that, the store provides diagnostics and recommendations that customers rely on. It is unreasonable to give direction on what parts to replace and then refuse to stand behind that guidance when it leads to a defective outcome. When I asked how to escalate the issue, I was told there was no one else to contact, which is not accurate. I later had to locate corporate contact information on my own. This experience was not just about a defective part—it was about the lack of accountability, poor customer service, and the unwillingness to support a loyal customer who followed the store’s recommendations. I am extremely disappointed and currently waiting to hear back from corporate, as this level of service—especially from a store manager—is not acceptable.
