I've rented vehicles from the S. Cedar Rd., Lansing, MI location several times. The -current- staff are professional yet personable, knowledgeable and friendly, and do their best to work with you should you have any needs or requests.
That said, I returned a van yesterday (05/12/2026), and they only had 1 person working (the gentleman who preps the vehicles for rental, not a desk agent.) When the agent who came in appx 15 mins later asked how the CS was, I responded to him, "Other than the wait today, you guys are always great to deal with. I do want to make sure I'm not charged for a return past 5pm, as there were 5 of us waiting in the lobby." It wasn't my fault it got scanned back in after 5pm due to there being only 1 employee on, who was outside getting a vehicle ready for the person at the front of the line. The agent who was handling my return, his demeanor changed after that, and when I asked about my next reserved vehicle, he said I had one on 5/20 and one on 5/22. I advised I had canceled the 5/20 pu, and asked for confirmation that the 5/22 pu was set for return on 6/5. He said, "I need to look again [heavy sigh], yeah, it is. I just need to know which one you want [rubs forhead]". I repeated that I canceled the 5/20.
I know it was the end of the day, and staffing is not their fault either, but if for no other reason, the >$3,500. I've spent in the last few months maybe should have been a factor in the response I received, if he needed a reason other than my being a customer in front of him.
The only constructive suggestions I might offer are to
1. Increase staff as needed, especially near the holidays. Perhaps even (when it's expected to be or is busier) to have specific agents for certain types of tasks, such as insurance replacements (work v personal), an agent on returns only, etc.
2. Have a clearly marked return area NEAR the door so the agents who have to go out and verify mileage, fuel level, condition, etc. can do so quickly and efficiently to keep the CX at a maximum level, as well as the staff's satisfaction.
All in all, they're a good bunch at that location. I will definitely rent from them again (I have a reservation as noted above), and am hopeful they get the help they need to increase satisfaction for both the customers and the staff.
