- LMLaurel M2 days ago1.0Other reviews are correct—don’t go here if you’re a woman. I went in to get my codes checked. The two guys working refused, saying if there’s no engine light there won’t be codes. My TPMS, ESC, and glow plug light came on at the same time. Condescendingly they told me what TPMS meant. I may not be a mechanic but I know the basics of car care and that the computer stores error codes even if it doesn’t trigger the CEL. It’s a VW, so a regular OBD2 reader will only give general codes. Which is fine, I only needed to know if I immediately needed a mechanic whilst I’m almost 400 miles away from home. I didn’t want to argue with small minded people so I left for O’Reilly across the street, worked with a fantastic employee and *gasp* some codes showed up!

Signs of a bad car battery can range from the need for frequent jump starts, slow to start, cranks or clicks but won't start, dash lights work but the vehicle won't start, etc.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
